Team news as injuries force Wigan Warriors to recall loanee as Salford Red Devils name just 18

Injuries have forced Wigan Warriors to recall a loanee from Salford Red Devils with the sides naming their squads for Friday night’s match.

Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet had confirmed yesterday that forwards Sam Walters and Luke Thompson would miss time injured, with Walters out for up to 12 weeks with a broken fibula.

Thompson was left nursing broken ribs with the timeline more dependent on how the England prop can manage pain but the loss of two of their stars has seen Wigan recall Harvey Makin from his loan deal at Salford.

The squad news and Paul Rowley confirmed that with the Salford boss speaking to media shortly after the team news was confirmed.

“It’s just a recall,” Rowley explained, adding: “They got a couple of injuries over the weekend, Wigan and whilst obviously they’re not short for one minute there, he’s probably earned the right to be up for selection for his parent club, so we really appreciate Wigan’s help throughout the process and stuff.

“There’s no bad feelings there, we’re very grateful to Wigan’s cooperation with Harvey, and grateful to Harvey as well for what he’s been doing for us week in, week out. So hopefully we can get him back in a week or two.”

Makin and Kian McDermott were the two changes from Wigan’s last 21-man squad as they replaced the aforementioned injured duo.

As for Salford, they’re only able to name an 18-man squad but it’s headlined by the likes of Ryan Brierley and Nene Macdonald, with Sam Stone a welcome boost.
