Willie Peters’ manager backs Hull KR coach as ‘ready’ for the NRL with club touted

Hull KR

The manager of Hull KR boss Willie Peters has argued that the Australian is ‘ready to coach in the NRL’, even touting a possible destination.

Peters has been gaining a lot of attention from Down Under recently and every time when asked, the Australian has answered honestly, admitting that he does hold NRL ambitions but he is fully committed to the job at Craven Park.

That will reassure Hull KR fans who are seeing their brightest period of success and performances in decades under the coaching of Peters, who was appointed ahead of the 2023 season.

Winning his first game against Wigan Warriors was impressive but it is Wigan who have blighted Peters’ record in respect of last year’s Grand Final defeat, as well as in the 2023 play-off semi-finals and 2024 Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Despite that, the Robins sit ahead of Wigan in the race for the League Leaders Shield with next month’s meeting highly anticipated and it will be another game where Peters can showcase his coaching, however, his manager already believes he is ready to take on an NRL gig.

Hull KR success puts Willie Peters on NRL radar

TV personality Braith Anasta is Willie Peters’ manager and he has spoken to The Daily Telegraph about the credentials of the Hull KR coach, lauding his success at Craven Park and even touting a possible NRL landing spot.

One thing he was clear on was that there has been no contact with any NRL clubs yet, something that Hull KR fans will be happy about with Peters proving true to his word that he is fully focused on the job at hand.

That hasn’t stopped his manager singing his praises though, with Anasta claiming: “I really do believe Willie is ready to coach in the NRL.

“Just watching what he has done with Hull KR is extraordinary. If the Titans job became available, I would certainly think Willie would be ready for that job.”

Gold Coast Titans are struggling at the moment with reports that head coach Des Hasler could be either close for the exit door via retirement or a sacking, and Anasta drew comparisons to the Titans and the Robins.

He argued: “When you look at Hull KR, they were in a similar position to the Titans, he has taken a struggling, low-profile club in need of a freshen up and turned them into a winning club.

“The Titans are the type of club that would appeal to Willie, but we’ve had no talks with any NRL club at this stage.”

‘He will be amazing’ – Peters backed for NRL success

That last line will please Hull KR fans but it does seem an inevitability that Peters will be heading to the NRL at some point, even if it is at the end of his contract in 2028.

Anasta, who played under some great coaches in his 288-game NRL career, backed Peters for a return whenever it comes, stating: “If a job comes up in the NRL, he will certainly be open to coming home to Australia.

“His work ethic, desire and drive is next level. He is a winner. Now that he has transformed Hull KR into a successful team, he can succeed at any club.

“I have had many types of coaches during my career and Willie is cut out for it, he will be amazing wherever he ends up.”
