Hull KR v Warrington Wolves team news with four doubts and five ruled out of Challenge Cup final

Hull KR

Hull KR and Warrington Wolves will go head to head at Wembley Stadium on Saturday in the Challenge Cup final. Willie Peters’ KR are the clear favourites to get their hands on the trophy, given they’ve lost just one game all season and currently sit on top of the Super League table.

But in reaching the final Warrington Wolves have shown they can get themselves up for the big occasion and they’ll fancy their chances of creating an upset and sending their fans back to the north west with smiles on their faces. Sam Burgess’ side have blown hot and cold all year but the return of George Williams from injury promises to provide a big boost and the hope is that his presence can get them over the line at Wembley.

Both sides will have key men missing, ensuring they won’t be at full strength and there are some doubts, too. With that in mind, here’s a look at this weekend’s team news then before the squads are released on Thursday afternoon.

Hull KR team news

Peters will have to reshape his Rovers side as he goes into this week without the cup-tied Arthur Mourgue. The full-back represented Catalans Dragons earlier in the competition and isn’t eligible to play to Wembley, meaning Jack Broadbent will get the nod at full-back. Noah Booth won’t be involved either, after playing for Hunslet in the early rounds.

Oliver Gildart misses out after having surgery on a knee injury last month with the centre set to miss another three months of action. Rhyse Martin isn’t expected to return to action for another few weeks yet either as he recovers from a quad problem.

There is some hope that Micky McIlorum could return to action in time to play under the Wembley arch, though, despite having surgery on his bicep less that two months ago. He was expected to miss 12 weeks of action but Peters has confirmed he will be named in the 21-man squad. Whether he is fit enough to be involved remains to be seen, though.

Warrington Wolves team news

George Williams will play on Saturday, all being well, and that’s a big boost for the Wolves, who have missed their skipper. Speaking on Monday afternoon, Burgess outlined his optimism that Lachlan Fitzgibbon would be able to shake off the injury he picked up last week against Castleford Tigers.

However, he was slightly less confident about Toby King (groin) and Jordy Crowther (ankle), with Burgess admitting Saturday might just come too soon for the pair.

Unfortunately for the Wolves, three men are guaranteed to miss the contest with Matty Ashton and Oli Leyland set to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury and Danny Walker a month into his 10-12 week lay-off. Walker has a knee issue which required surgery but is some way off being ready to play for the Wolves.

Sick to death of hearing about Warrys injuries.
They were bleating about having 6 out 2 weeks ago, but that included a player that had actually left the club, and not 1 mention of the fact KR had 5 out as well.
I always enjoy my trips to Warry and have some good friends amongst their fans, but give it a rest
