Just an hour after announcing that they had re-signed centre Oliver Gildart to an extended deal until the end of the 2028 season, Hull KR have gone and confirmed a new deal for his wing partner Joe Burgess, who says it’s time to go and try repeat their incredible treble-winning feat.
Both Gildart and Burgess were among the handful of high-profile Hull KR players without deals beyond the end of 2026 but in the space of an afternoon, the Robins have tied down two of their best players to new deals.
Gildart, 29, has signed a two-year extension, whilst Burgess, 31, has signed a one-year extension that keeps him at the club until the end of the 2027 season and the winger has spoken on his excitement about landing a new deal at the same time as his best mate.
The pair previously played at Wigan together and despite Gildart missing parts of the 2025 season through injury, they’ve formed a devastating left edge and that’s something Burgess is hoping to see more of in 2026 and 2027.
Hull KR sign Joe Burgess to new deal
Speaking on his new deal, Burgess, who arrived at Hull KR ahead of the 2024 season, said: “I’ve loved my time in East Hull since I moved over. The people and the city are lovely. All the lads are great, and we’ve really gelled over the past two years.
“It shows with winning the Treble last year, and we get to go again this year and try to do it again.
“To be able to do it all over again with my best friend, Gilly, I can’t ask for much more. He can send me into the corner a few more times over the next two seasons.”
Burgess has scored 42 tries in 48 whilst playing for the Robins and that form led to an England call-up for the recent Ashes series, something that head coach Willie Peters said was well-deserved when assessing his winger’s new deal.
Peters said: “He’s a great finisher, as we all know, but it’s what he does off the ball that impresses me and his teammates. Joe is a character off the field and a popular member of the dressing room.
“Joe was rewarded for an outstanding year by playing for England in last year’s Ashes Series.”
With Gildart (2028) and Burgess (2027) having both signed new contracts, it leaves fellow outside backs Lee Kershaw and Peta Hiku, as well as forwards Jack Brown, Rhyse Martin, Sauaso Sue and Zach Fishwick as those off-contract at the club.
