Hull KR have confirmed the diagnosis for one of their major contributors in 2025 and revealed the recovery timeline after surgery.
In a week of good news for the Robins after their progression to the Challenge Cup Final and the announcement that they will head to Las Vegas in 2026, the club have sadly announced that Oliver Gildart will miss the next four months.
Willie Peters had previously revealed that dependent on the extent of the injury, Gildart could miss just eight weeks but he admitted that a lengthier 16-week lay-off was likely.
That has now been confirmed with the club taking to social media to reveal the diagnosis and confirm surgery has been completed, with their player now set to begin his rehab process.
Posting on X, the Robins revealed: “Hull KR can confirm Oliver Gildart sustained a meniscal injury in the win over Salford Red Devils.
“Gildart underwent knee surgery earlier this week and now has an estimated recovery time of four months”
Hull KR confirm Oliver Gildart surgery with lay-off confirmed
The centre went down innocuously after just five minutes of the win over Salford Red Devils at Magic Weekend with the former Wigan man visibly in pain.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Willie Peters confirmed the squad’s health to be relatively good barring the major loss of Gildart who joins the likes of Rhyse Martin and Micky McIlorum on the long-term injured list.
The Australian explained: “The squads looks reasonably healthy. Obviously we’ve lost Oliver Gildart which is a massive blow to him and the team. He’s had his surgery and he’s got a long recovery now obviously. Other than that we’re ok.
“It’ll definitely be the longer lay off, he had surgery yesterday and we’re looking at that four month period now.”
Speaking further on how Gildart was doing, the Hull KR boss said: “He’s only just had the operation, it will be all new to him because it’s happened pretty quickly. It’s going to be in a few weeks time once he realises that he’s not playing in the Challenge Cup and big games coming up because he’s been a huge part of what we’ve done.
“He had a strong pre-season, he didn’t play in the Grand Final last year but came back with the right attitude but his best foot forward and hardly missed a session. I can’t remember him missing a session.”
Peters underlined how big the loss will be, adding: “He’s played every game I believe until now, he’s been important and a few of the media had him in their current team of the year up to this stage, he was doing a very good job for us.
“It’s his wellbeing now that’s most important because it’s a long lay off but we’ll get around him like we always do.”
