Hull KR star Mikey Lewis gives ‘tough as f**k’ verdict after Challenge Cup comeback win

Hull KR star Mikey Lewis has given his immediate post-match thoughts after nailing the conversion to win the Challenge Cup Final, ending a 40-year wait for silverware.

Plenty of the Hull KR fans in attendance at Wembley today will not have been alive to see their last major success but those that were part of the 63,278 in London today will never forget it.

Trailing 6-2 to Warrington Wolves with just two minutes to go, Hull KR scored in the corner through Tom Davies with Lewis converting the try to edge the Robins 8-6 ahead with just over a minute to go.

It certainly wasn’t a performance to remember for the Robins but they will never forget the final two minutes with the video referee pouring over the footage to check if Tom Davies grounded the ball.

Ten yards in from touch, it was far from an easy conversion to take it from 6-6 to 8-6 but Man of Steel Mikey Lewis nailed it to send Hull KR fans delirious.

“I’m lost for words, I had to go through my process and hope for the best,” he said of that moment.

“That’s what tough teams do” – Hull KR star hails Wembley comeback win

On the match as a whole, he was just as emotional, labelling Hull KR as “tough as f**k” and hailing their never-say-die attitude.

Speaking on the BBC to Jon Wilkin, he said:”We’re tough, we’re tough as f**k, sorry for the language but we had our backs against the walls and that’s what tough teams do.”

It ends a run of losing finals with two of those major final defeats coming in the past two years, once at Wembley to Leigh Leopards in golden point in 2023, and also in last year’s Grand Final against Wigan Warriors.

Recalling that, Lewis said: “It’s massive, the heartbreak two or three years ago against Leigh but this really sums it up. These are the finals and the games you want to be involved in and play in for the rest of my career. Hopefully we can go again.”

On the adoring fans, he said: “Without them, we wouldn’t be where we want to be.”
