Hull KR have confirmed the signing of veteran utility Ryan Hampshire on a full-time deal following a successful trial with the club.
News of Hampshire first trialling with the club came when his name appeared on a team sheet for Hull KR reserves, with Willie Peters going on to confirm that it was in fact the Ryan Hampshire formerly of Wigan Warriors and most recently Featherstone Rovers.
After Featherstone went into administration, Hampshire was seeking game time to keep match fitness and Hull KR were able to offer that but the 31-year-old has impressed so much that he has landed himself a deal with the club until the end of the season.
A statement from Hull KR announced: “The 31-year-old utility back has featured for the club’s reserves, showcasing his versatility across the spine. Hampshire’s ability to cover multiple positions in the halves and at full-back adds valuable depth to Willie Peters’ squad.”
Giving his verdict, head coach Willie Peters said: “Ryan (Hampshire) has come into the group on trial and has impressed us with his professionalism and attitude in training.
“Ryan has earned this opportunity through training and his performances with the Reserves and the way he’s applied himself since arriving at the club.
“He’s an experienced player who understands the game and can cover several key positions in the spine, which is important to us.”
Adept at full-back and in the halves, Hampshire offers plenty of versatility but also experience with the 31-year-old starting his career over ten years ago with Wigan Warriors, for whom he would make 30 appearances before returning to as recently as 2023.
