Tom Amone on why he chose Hull KR and Castleford Tigers as deals confirmed

Hull KR have confirmed the news that they have signed former Super League Dream Team member Tom Amone and he’s revealed why.

The Robins have announced the splash signing of the ex-Leigh Leopards man less than 24 hours after confirming that current prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will call time on his career at the end of the season.

With enforced JWH heading for the exit door, that opened up a position in the pack and importantly, an overseas quota spot.

Hull KR have moved quickly to fill it with the 29-year-old prop confirmed as their latest signing in a major piece of recruitment that sends a message to the rest of Super League.

Perhaps more impressive is the fact that Leigh Leopards and Warrington Wolves were reportedly interested in signing Amone, showcasing the pulling power that the Robins have.

Signing a three-year deal that will tie him down at Craven Park until the end of the 2028 season, Amone has spoken on his move.

The club released a statement confirming the move whilst also revealing that Amone will play at Castleford for the remainder of 2025, in part due to the Robins’ lack of cap space but also to help the forward settle back into English life.

Sharing the news, the Robins said: : “Hull KR are delighted to announce the signing of powerful prop forward, Tom Amone, on a three-year deal from the 2026 Betfred Super League season.

“The 28-year-old joins the Robins from Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and will remain at Sewell Group Craven Park until at least the end of the 2028 campaign.”

Chief executive Paul Lakin confirmed the Castleford Tigers link, explaining: “It was very important to us to get Tom and his young family settled in the Hull area when they arrive in England.”

“Despite not having the cap space available for Tom to play for us in 2025, we are pleased that he will play for Castleford for the remainder of this season, ensuring the move to Hull can happen immediately.”

Amone himself spoke on his excitement at joining Hull KR with the Craven Park faithful being noted as a key driver behind the decision, as well as the club’s plans for 2026 and beyond.

The 29-year-old said: “I’m really excited to be joining Hull KR from 2026. Speaking with Willie (Peters) and hearing his plans for the club made the decision an easy one – It’s something I definitely want to be a part of.

“The fans, the culture and the direction of the club really stood out to me and I can’t wait to get started next season.”

The Tigers’ brief announcement saw them confirm: “Castleford Tigers are pleased to announce the signing of ‘powerhouse’ prop Tom Amone from Canterbury Bulldogs with immediate effect; to the end of the current Betfred Super League Season.”
