Hull KR sign rising star from Hull FC on long-term deal

Hull KR have confirmed the signing of young Hull FC playmaker Jack Charles, with the teenager crossing the city after penning a four-year deal at Craven Park.

It’s a move that has been reported for months with Willie Peters previously fielding questions about Charles, simply responding by saying: “I certainly admire him. There’s nothing to talk about at the moment but he’s certainly a good young half… and he’s an exciting young half.”

That ‘exciting young half’ will now be calling Craven Park home for the next four years after signing a deal that keeps him as a Hull KR player until the end of the 2029 season.

It’s a key move for the Robins who have a serious lack of depth in the halves behind starters Mikey Lewis and Tyrone May. Danny Richardson has left to sign with York Knights whilst Rowan Milnes, who re-signed with Rovers late in the 2025 season, has now signed for Bradford Bulls.

Whilst Charles will have been recruited to develop and learn from Lewis and May, he will also be the club’s back-up in case of injury, with both starters missing time last year.

Jack Charles signs four-year deal with Hull KR

Charles made 22 appearances in Super League during his time with Hull FC, debuting in the round three win over London Broncos in 2024 with his final appearance being the hammering of Salford Red Devils in round 21 of 2025.

He also played in two Hull derbies, both in 2024, with the Black and Whites losing to KR on both occasions, though he will have already known the significance of the derby given he’s a Hull-born lad.

His father, Chris, also played for Hull KR and Jack now follows in his dad’s footsteps and he spoke about his delight at that.

“First of all, I’m really excited to get started,” explained the teenager.

“It’s a bit surreal. My family are all Red and White. But this was ultimately my own decision and I want to stamp my own legacy at the club and on the game.”

On his new half-back teammates, Charles said: “Mikey and Tyrone are great players with what they’ve done the last few couple of years. I just want to learn off them alongside Willie (Peters) and be a sponge on the training pitch and off it.”

Willie Peters had his say on the signing, stating: “He’s an exciting young half and his best years are ahead of him. Jack has the opportunity to learn from our staff alongside Tyrone May and Mikey Lewis, which will give him the best opportunity to develop into a Super League player at Hull KR.”
