Hull KR sign prolific former St Helens man tipped for Super League success

Hull KR

Hull KR have secured the signing of Oldham centre Jumah Sambou from the start of next season, the club have announced. Sambou has penned a three-year deal with the east Hull outfit, ensuring he will remain with the club until the end of the 2028 season at least.

Sambou has been with Oldham since being released by St Helens, where he made just one senior appearance, at the end of the 2023 season. His progress at Boundary Park has been slower than he might have liked after missing almost all of last season due to injury.

However, he scored four tries in two appearances for the Roughyeds at the end of last season in League One and he has carried that form into this season. In seven games this year he has touched down on six occasions, but once more the centre’s progress has been slow due to the seven-game ban he received for biting.

Speaking about the move, Sambou told the Hull KR website: “It’s a big opportunity for me. I’m excited to be joining the Robins. Having spoke to Willie, I like the direction the club is going in and I want to be part of it.

“Oldham has made me grow a lot as a player and a person. I’m grateful for the club and the town’s support. I plan to end the year on a high there. Next year will be a big step forward and I’m excited for the chance to prove myself at Hull KR.”

Hull KR boss expresses his Jumah Sambou excitement

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters added: “We’re pleased to have Jumah join the club next season. Jumah was a talented junior who unfortunately had an ACL injury that set back his development.

“Since then, Jumah has gained some good experience at Oldham where he’s been one of the stand-out centres in the Championship and he will add quality competition to our outside backs in 2026.”

Speaking of the centre’s switch to Super League for next season, Oldham boss Sean Long said: “He’s a great player to watch and we love having him in the team.

“It is a credit to both Jumah and our club that Hull KR want to sign him. We have strong links with Rovers and their boss Willie Peters, with Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e having been with us the past two seasons, so hopefully it may be an option to use Jumah next season like we have with Phoenix and with George and Wigan.

“Either way I’m sure he will be a big success in Super League”.
