Hull KR made the trip across the city to take on Hull FC in a top-of-the-table clash and the player ratings are now in.
Hull FC looked like they would maybe land a shock comeback win but the Robins kicked on again in the second half to win 28-14.
The game turned when Cade Cust was sent off after 15 minutes and despite a resurgent first 20 minutes of the second half, Hull KR showed their class and used the man advantage to win a gritty derby in front of over 21,000.
The talk in the week came around Mikey Lewis and whether the Man of Steel would play after having limped off against the Black and Whites in the Challenge Cup clash a fortnight ago..
Willie Peters confirmed that Lewis was “definitely a chance” for Hull KR and Robins fans will have rejoiced when he was named in the squad, meaning Arthur Mourgue moved to full-back and utility back Jack Broadbent moved to the bench.
Here are our Hull KR player ratings for the Robins clash with their nearest and dearest rivals, Hull FC.
Hull KR player ratings
Full-back: Arthur Mourgue – 9
The French full-back was at the heart of the flashpoint earlier on, taking a huge high shot from Cade Cust which saw the Australian sent off. Mourgue would return and managed to scramble over just before half time to open up a 12-point lead. Also kicked from the tee very well in a brilliant performance.
Winger: Tom Davies – 7
Dropped one in the corner but that was due to a brilliant defensive effort. Limped off just before half-time.
Centre: Peta Hiku – 8
Found himself all over the field which was why he was there to support Burgess and cross over for the Robins’ second. Did well to bat back the ball for JWH’s try.
Centre: Oliver Gildart – 8
Managed to outrace Tom Briscoe to score the opener inside 10 minutes and provided a handful of other solid breaks. One of the better centres in Super League this year.
Winger: Joe Burgess – 7
Brilliant break which created Hiku’s try. Appeared to be tackled in the air in his in-goal but the video referee ruled otherwise, costing KR a captain’s challenge. Left the field for a HIA in the second half.
Half-back: Mikey Lewis – 8
Smart show-and-go to create the space for Oliver Gildart’s opener. Kicking game was strong and caused plenty of problems with JWH’s try coming from one of his bombs.
Half-back: Tyrone May – 6
Quiet game and unfortunately for him one of the louder moments was when he gave away a penalty for dissent whilst the Robins were attacking Hull FC’s line.
Prop: Sauaso Sue – 6
Had been a concern after going off last week and whilst he didn’t have the same impact he normally has, he went well.
Hooker: Jez Litten – 7
Not quite the Man of the Match performance he put in against this opponent in the Challenge Cup but did show signs of sharpness.
Prop: Jared Waerea-Hargreaves – 8
The stats might not be favourable to him again but the impact he has on the rest of this side is immeasurable. The veteran also managed to get on the scoresheet, proving to be in the right place at the right time.
Second-row: Dean Hadley – 8
Did what he always does, carried hard, tackled plenty and proved Mr Consistent once again. Found himself embroiled in a scuffle near the end of the game.
Second-row: James Batchelor – 8
Forced to move into the centres in the second half and managed to score at a crucial time in the game to help the Robins open up an eight-point lead.
Loose forward: Elliot Minchella – 7
Got his captain’s challenge wrong, although perhaps unlucky to lose it. One of his quieter games in terms of ball in hand but plenty of defensive work.
Interchanges
Sam Luckley – 5
Came on late and didn’t have quite the same impact as last week when he offloaded brilliantly.
Jai Whitbread – 6
Refreshed the Hull KR pack with plenty of hard yards.
Jack Broadbent – 7
Was called into action earlier than expected given Mourgue’s Head Injury Assessment. Then had to shift to the wing to cover Tom Davies, justifying Willie Peters’ mid-week praise when he compared him to a State of Origin star.
Kelepi Tanginoa – 8
Brilliant impact off the bench as always. Almost scored with a rampaging carry in the first half.
