Hull KR pair ruled out as Willie Peters delivers injury update on key men

Hull KR boss Willie Peters has confirmed that he will be without first choice wingers Tom Davies and Joe Burgess once more this weekend.

The pair picked up injuries in the Good Friday clash with Hull FC at the MKM Stadium and missed last Friday’s game against Leeds Rhinos as a result.

Burgess was missing due to a head knock and while he would ordinarily be free to play this weekend against Salford Red Devils. However, the club will keep him back another week on the back of medical advice.

Davies, on the other hand, picked up a shoulder injury and was expected to be out for a little longer. Peters believes he could have played this week at a push, but he isn’t willing to risk the winger at St James’ Park.

It means Peters is likely to go into this week’s clash against Salford with Jack Broadbent and either Lee Kershaw or Peta Hiku on the wings, with the right edge dependent on who he chooses to replace Kelepi Tanginoa, who picked up a head knock last week, at back-row.

“The wingers aren’t back so Tom Davies won’t play and neither will Joe Burgess,” Peters told journalists this afternoon. “Joe has got one more week, the specialist wants to give him one more week.

“Tom, we just feel like he possibly could play but we don’t want to do any further damage to it. We want to get him right so he’ll have the week off. Other than that everyone is OK.

“It’s headaches every week and that’s what you want, we have a strong squad and people are fighting for positions so certainly there’s headaches for myself and the other coaches who help pick the team.”

Hull KR face Salford in the second game on Saturday at Magic Weekend and they’ll be determined to pile the pressure on second placed Wigan Warriors, who play Warrington Wolves on Sunday, by racking up another impressive win.
