Hull KR, Leigh Leopards and Wigan Warriors men amongst players sweating Super League disciplinary

Round 22 of Super League is complete and we’re getting closer to knowing who will lift the League Leaders’ Shield next month.

Hull KR are now six points clear at the top of the division and with just five games remaining, they have the chance to wrap up their second trophy of the season in just a couple of weeks. The Robins have been the dominant side in Super League this season and their win over Wigan Warriors underlined that, despite the narrow 10-6 scoreline.

The league table doesn’t lie and Wigan have clearly been the second best side in the division, but their spot in the top two is now under threat as they approach the Super League climax.

St Helens and Leeds Rhinos are now within two points of Matt Peet’s side after their respective wins over Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tigers.

Leigh Leopards missed the opportunity to move within one point of the Cherry and Whites as they lost to Hull FC, who kept hold of sixth place for at least another week.

Warrington Wolves were the other winners of the round, with Salford Red Devils forfeiting their clash against Wakefield Trinity.

However, a number of clubs will now be waiting for the disciplinary verdict to come out later today to find out whether any of their players have been banned.

Super League players sweating disciplinary verdict

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will be one of those worried about a potential ban following Hull KR’s win over Wigan. It went unpunished during the game, but the prop made contact with Tyler Dupree’s head while carrying the ball into contact.

The New Zealand international had his bumpers up, but in doing so he led with his elbow and gave tackler Dupree a blow to the head. The Wigan man had to go off for HIA but he passed it and was able to play on.

Waerea-Hagreaves does have previous with 8.5 points to his name already and that means any sanction would result in a ban.

Liam Farrell was the only man majorly penalised during that top of the table clash with the Wigan skipper being sin-binned for a professional foul, taking Elliot Minchella out off the ball to deny the Rovers man a try scoring opportunity. Whether that warrants further punishment remains to be seen.

Edwin Ipape already has five disciplinary points and he’ll be sweating after making contact to the head of Lewis Martin in the clash between Leigh Leopards and Hull FC. There was mitigation, with Martin’s rapid loss of height bringing about the head contact, but it still didn’t look great. A penalty was deemed to be sufficient at the time but Ipape might end up being handed a charge.

An incident went on report in the clash between St Helens and Huddersfield Giants with a suspected crusher tackle taking place. It was accidental but Leroy Cudjoe was one of the players involved in the challenge and it will be looked at.
