Hull KR were left to rue some ‘silly decisions’ in their 26-24 loss to Wakefield Trinity, according to head coach Willie Peters.
Fresh off last week’s Challenge Cup Final loss, it seemed that Hull KR had a Wembley hangover as they failed to field the kick-off but they gradually found their way into the game, despite it looking like it could get out of control.
Wakefield led 16-6 just before half time but a Jai Whitbread try kept the Robins in it and after conceding early in the second half, Hull KR took the lead before Mason Lino’s 78th-minute winner cost them as Trinity won 26-24.
Speaking post-match on Sky Sports, Willie Peters assessed: “We knew what to expect. They had a lot of fight in them at the back end, but I was proud of our guys because that could have got away from us at the start of the game.
“I didn’t like our start but we found a way to get into it, and then the second half we started similar to the way we started that first half, but found a way to get back in, so there was plenty of fighting spirit there, but just some silly sort of decisions at that back end, which we’ll have to have a look at.”

Hull KR boss proud despite devastating defeat
Having taken the lead through Tyrone May’s try, Hull KR looked like they might see the game out but Peters pointed to poor ends to sets late on as a reason why the Robins ceded their lead.
He said: “We were (in control) and that’s what we’re going to look at. We lost control when we were running the ball in the last play, and I was backing them because they were backing their defence.
“I thought I was comfortable where we were at and then we decided to put a kick in for some reason with four minutes to go, and then against the run of play, it puts you under pressure, and then penalties come off the back of it.
“We just lost a bit of control at that back end, so we need to look at that.”
After now losing back-t0-back games in the Challenge Cup and Super League, Peters was asked about the general feeling in the camp, to which he expressed pride before reiterating what needs to be improved before next week’s game.
“Naturally, a bit disappointed,” Peters assessed, addding: “As I said, I’m proud of them because we knew it was going to be a difficult game today, a challenging game, especially off the back of last week.
“We did a fair bit of talking during the week, but it was around our actions, and I thought the majority of the game our effort and competing was there, but as I said, there were moments in that game, some decision-making, just in and around the ruck. We need to look at some technical stuff.”
