Rugby League fans split after Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos’ Las Vegas announcement

Leeds Rhinos

Rugby league returns to Las Vegas again in 2026 and fans have had their say on the news Hull KR will take on Leeds Rhinos.

It will be the third year that a rugby league event is held in Las Vegas but only the second which sees Super League involvement. The success of Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves’ trip stateside earlier this year ensured Super League’s return with the line-up confirmed earlier this week.

Hull KR have sacrificed a home game and they’ll take on Leeds Rhinos whilst the two NRL games pit Canterbury Bulldogs against St George Illawarra Dragons, and Newcastle Knights versus North Queensland Cowboys.

The 2025 edition saw a women’s Test match between Australia and England but that has been shelved with a three-game schedule preferred.

Kick-off times and the running order have not been confirmed but Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos have confirmed that 5,000 fans had registered their interest for tickets within hours.

We asked fans what they thought of the announcement with a mixed response given.

What rugby league fans said about Hull KR v Leeds Rhinos in Las Vegas

Gary Lee: As a KR fan, I’ll go, but I’d rather it was against FC.

Kevin Lloyd: I went this year as a neutral fan. Absolutely fantastic occasion. Fabulous stadium, the NRL did a great job on promoting RL-based activities along the strip.

Darren Murray: Good on them, it was fantastic this year. The fans will have a top time.

Richard Watson: Not a great advert as KR will run riot. KR Wigan would be better.

Christopher Gorey: Unless the Rhinos strengthen their squad it will be a mismatch?

Rodger Nicholson: No wonder the game is stagnant, exposure means better TV deals, more sponsorship. Like it or not, the game needs money whichever avenue you wish to take.

Emma Goldthorpe: Two big fan bases with Leeds and KR. Should be a cracker!

Philip Malone: Good for the game, get more Yanks interest. Not a**ed who goes.

Could someone give the criteria used to ascertain that the Wigan v Warrington Las Vegas trip was a success?

I suspect that it was the number of fans that travelled, the noise/impact they made in Vegas before and after the event and the quality of the game they played. The ultimate sign of success is the fact that 2 Superleague clubs got invited back.

This is an NRL show aimed at trying to attract American fans to sign up for an NRL streaming app and for betting deals that benefit the NRL. The fact that Superleague gets showcased in this is a real positive in trying to grow our game and at relatively little cost to Superleague. The NRL are also doing this because they are trying to secure a global streaming rights contract with some of the biggest media companies on the planet. If they pull that one off, it is highly likely that Superleague could feature in that bringing serious money and investment from the NRL.

One of the big reasons why we have clubs like Salford going bust is because we have lacked ideas and the guts to take them. We have a very inward looking view of our sport and think if we just win a comp, everything will be marvellous. We are still living in the 60s and unless we start taking the tough decisions our sport needs, the whole comp will end up like Salford.

There is a very good reason why the NRL dwarfs Union in Australia.
