After Hull KR forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was handed a two-match ban following the Round Eleven Super League clash with Huddersfield Giants, rugby league fans have had their say on the matter.
A big deal was made out of Waerea-Hargreaves disciplinary record in the NRL when it was confirmed that Hull KR had signed him but until Saturday, there had been no issues for the former Sydney Roosters man.
He had picked up one Grade A charge all season, meaning his disciplinary record sat at just one point but the Match Review Panel handed him a further 15 for the high shot he landed on Huddersfield’s Matty English on Saturday.
Waerea-Hargreaves certainly caught English high and the player did fail a HIA and was left with a bloodied mouth but plenty of rugby league fans think that a two-match ban is excessive.
Others have argued it was more than deserved so we asked fans what they thought on the matter.
What rugby league fans said about Jared Waerea-Hargreaves’ ban?
Serious About Rugby League asked fans if Waerea-Hargreaves was “unlucky to be handed a two-game ban”, and it’s fair to say that opinion was split.
Elizabeth Brewis: It was well-deserved, multiple stitches was the result of his foul play!
Jeff Swales: He only got 10 minutes but English couldn’t continue the game so worth a ban.
Karl Davis: I don’t agree with a two-match ban. I thought the yellow was sufficient, especially given the view at slow motion review displaying it was secondary contact with the head.
Dave Wilson: Cust shoulders Mourgue’s head the other week in the derby, no ban. Jared puts a bad one in, two-match ban? All we want is consistency FFS.
Chris J Watson: All we want as fans is consistency – Knight for Hull FC shoulder charged a player directly to the head and was shown straight red and got no ban but JWH gets TWO games for his challenge?
Richard Pearce: Not convinced it was even a penalty, never mind a bin or ban.
Rob Woodall: Yellow card was harsh in the first place.
Kevin Holder: Fit and rested for Wembley!
Plenty of others commented on the initial report as well, and again the opinion was split.
Steve Greenley: Over the top.
Gary Ainley: Should have been red on the day. Made no attempt to make tackle and English with 12 stitches in his mouth.
