Hull KR injury update as Arthur Mourgue return date moved forward

Hull KR have received an injury boost with head coach Willie Peters confirming that full-back Arthur Mourgue could return sooner than expected.

Mourgue joined the Robins in early 2025 and has been a key player for the club but he’s been absent since the World Club Challenge win over Brisbane Broncos after leaving the field before half-time with a pec injury.

The Frenchman underwent surgery and was handed a 12-16 week recovery time, however, Willie Peters has now confirmed that the full-back is on track to return earlier than expected.

A 16-week rehab would have seen Mourgue return in mid-June, whilst 12 weeks would put him around mid-May and Peters has now told Serious About Rugby League that Mourgue could feature against Leigh Leopards in Super League round 11, as opposed to the club’s previous expectation of round 12 against Wigan Warriors.

Speaking at his weekly presser, the Hull KR coach confirmed: “Arthur, we were looking for the Wigan game. We’re probably looking at the week before that now ideally, which is Leigh from memory.”

It’s a key boost as it would allow the Frenchman to get a game under his belt before the home clash against Wigan, a repeat of last year’s Grand Final.

Also sidelined at the moment is fellow full-back Declan Murphy who Peters confirmed had suffered a setback during his rehab with the ex-Salford man set to be out for ‘another three weeks’.

Outside that pair and Jumah Sambou, who the club had sent on loan to Widnes Vikings, Hull KR are in good health with last week’s absentee Elliot Minchella in line for a return.

Peters also allayed any fears over Dean Hadley’s eye, as he explained: “Everyone seems okay. We’ve got a good group there to choose from, which is positive.

“He (Dean Hadley) got the all-clear, so he’s trained with us today. Elliot Minchella trained as well, so hopefully he’ll be back as well.”

Kicker Rhyse Martin also played limited minutes in the Challenge Cup win over York Knights but Peters confirmed the Papua New Guinean international is good to go, though a decision may be made on goal-kicking duties nearer the time.

Peters explained: “He (Rhyse Martin) is fine. He trained with us today as well, so we’ve just got to see what he’s like when he kicks again.

“Mikey will kick if Rhyse doesn’t, and then off the back of that we’ve got Jez as well that can kick. Mikey’s doing a really good job for being our third kicker, which you need.”

The Robins will take on Toulouse Olympique at 6:00 pm UK time on Friday night as they look to extend their winning run, with the 21-man squad set to be confirmed at midday on Wednesday.
