Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has revealed that prop forward Tom Amone will miss Super League Magic Weekend as a result of a fractured eye socket.
Amone was one of several players not to feature in the 21-man squad and Peters has now confirmed why with the former Challenge Cup winner having played through the majority of the loss to Leeds with that injury.
Hull KR lost that game handily but they were dealt a major blow inside five minutes as Dean Hadley failed a HIA after a head clash with Amone, and whilst Amone passed his HIA, it’s now confirmed that he suffered a fractured eye socket.
“He’ll miss the next two games and we’re hopefully getting back to the game after that,” head coach Willie Peters confirmed to BBC Radio Humberside on Thursday afternoon.
“He obviously had a head clash with Dean Hadley and did well to soldier on and play through that but he went for scans afterwards and showed a fracture.”
It’s a major blow, especially with Hadley also ruled out due to his HIA, Tevita Pangai Jr being suspended, and Sam Luckley still remaining out with a hamstring issue.
On Luckley and Joe Burgess, who both remained absent from the 21-man squad, Peters confirmed: “Sam was a definite two weeks so this is the second week. We should see Sam back next week. Joe Burgess is one where it’s pretty much up to the individual in terms of pain tolerance and what they can handle and what they can’t handle.
“We’ll leave that with Joe and see where he’s at next week.
“He trained yesterday. Yeah, he trained with the opposition team but obviously contact at the moment.”

Hull KR still waiting on Dean Hadley update
There was positive news in that Jez Litten and Sauaso Sue, who both missed out in the loss to Leeds Rhinos, would be expected to feature with Peters declaring both men ‘okay to play’.
However, there was less certainty at the long-term injury status of Dean Hadley, who failed his second HIA inside a month having also left the field early in the Challenge Cup Final loss to Wigan Warriors.
On how the forward is, Peters explained: “Dean’s got to go to the specialist and see where it’s at. Dean was fine in terms of he wanted to play on. He just felt like he needed a bit of time as he was bleeding from the nose.
“The medical staff saw it different and that’s why Dean came off and now he’s got to go through the protocols and the channels to make sure that that he’s okay but Dean didn’t have any symptoms or anything like that afterwards. It was fine.”
Given that Hadley has failed two HIAs inside a month, Peters was asked if that could lead to a longer stand-down period, something he admitted he still is unsure of.
“That’s out of our hands, that’ll be with the specialist now.”
