Hull KR boss Willie Peters has high hopes that Oliver Gildart’s injury isn’t as bad as first feared. Gildart picked up a knee issue inside the first few minutes of KR’s 54-0 Magic Weekend win over Salford Red Devils at St James’ Park and had to be helped from the field.
That left the Robins with a makeshift back line for the majority of the contest against the Red Devils, with Joe Burgess and Tom Davies already ruled out through injury. That didn’t faze them, though, as they ran in nine tries on the day.
Arthur Mourgue and Jez Litten both scored braces, while Dean Hadley, Noah Booth, James Batchelor, Peta Hiku and hometown lad Sam Luckley all touched down as well to send the Robins into the Challenge Cup semi-finals on the back of a huge win.
Whether Gildart will be available for next week’s tie against Catalans Dragons remains to be seen, though.
“Hopefully but we’ll have to wait and see,” Peters said when asked if Gildart was OK after the game. “It’s one of those that initially we were worried but now it’s hopefully better than we thought, we just have to wait and see how it settles down.”

Speaking on the game, that was loose for periods despite the one-sided scoreline, Peters added: “We just had a chat then with the players, it was a little bit scrappy and we all agreed with that.
“The positive is we came here to win, get two points and to keep a team to zero, you have to work hard for each other to be able to do that. I want to give Salford a lot of credit, because what they’re going through and the inexperience they had in their team, they didn’t let off, they just kept trying and they’ve done that every week.
“We know that ‘s not going to cut it next week, we know we need to improve next week, but I’m confident that we’ll have a good week in training and the players will lift.”
