Hull KR injury blow as key man limps out of Magic Weekend clash

Hull KR

Hull KR were dealt an injury blow inside the opening few minutes of their Magic Weekend clash with Salford Red Devils. The Robins have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Super League table by seeing off the lowly Red Devils but they’ll have to do it without Oliver Gildart.

The centre, who has been in superb form this season so far, appeared to suffer a knee injury inside the opening eight minutes of the game. It was unclear how he managed to pick up the injury with no contact being made around the joint in a tackle.

But, it was enough to see him forced out of the action with the former Wigan Warriors man being helped from the field and straight down the tunnel at St James’ Park. The injury occurred while the game was scoreless, with James Batchelor having a try ruled out via a Captain’s Challenge.

However, it didn’t take the Robins long to get over the line with Dean Hadley touching down just a few minutes after.

Hull KR injury latest ahead of Challenge Cup semi-final

Head coach Willie Peters will be hoping the injury isn’t a serious one, especially with next week’s Challenge Cup semi-final against Catalans Dragons on the horizon. The Robins are already without Joe Burgess and Tom Davies at present, due to injuries they suffered in Rivals Round against Hull FC.

Burgess picked up a head knock and is expected to return, while Davies has a shoulder injury and it remains to be seen if he will be involved at the LNER Community Stadium in York. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was rested for the game in Newcastle with that game in mind.

Peters will be asked for an update on Gildart’s injury with the Cup game in mind after the contest at Magic Weekend.
