Hull KR will travel to the MKM Stadium for a second time in the space of a fortnight when they face Hull FC on Good Friday and head coach Willie Peters has given his verdict on the opposition.
Rarely do derbies come so close together in the calendar and rarely are Good Friday derbies played down, however, the hype and build-up to the recent Challenge Cup quarter-final between the rival clubs, the first meeting of the two in the competition since 1986, has meant that it’s all a bit déjà vu this week.
The irony in that is the fact that the winner on Good Friday will either retain their spot atop Super League or leapfrog the other, with Hull KR the current leaders and FC the chasers in second.
It’s a unique moment for the two teams, even if it is not a unique game, and both sides will have hoped to learn from their Challenge Cup meeting two weeks ago – a game which the Robins won 32-16.

Asked about what he had learned from that encounter, Peters showered praise on the Black and Whites who are coached by his old mate John Cartwright.
“They’re a team that don’t go away,” Peters responded.
“They’ve been in every single game. We obviously got away with it and got to a good lead, but they certainly fought their way back and came back into that game.”
Peters also ensured to praise FC’s Round Seven performance against Warrington Wolves as he noted the club’s ability to back up an emotionally-draining derby loss with a win.
He said: “Then the week after, they go play against a very good Warrington team at their place and have a good win but I knew beforehand they’ve got a lot of experience. They’ve got big game players.”
Asked about the nature of this derby given Hull KR are intent on defending first place on the Super League ladders, Peters responded: “Every derby you enjoy, I enjoy every derby. Every derby’s got its own atmosphere and this week, as I said, it’ll be electric.”
What is the best position for Will Pryce? Willie Peters has his say…

Of those ‘big-game players’ that Peters mentioned, few are more exciting than Will Pryce, who made his Hull FC debut against the Robins in the Challenge Cup.
Making the switch from Newcastle Knights to West Hull, Pryce played just days after landing in the country and Peters has given his thoughts after getting to see a more settled in version of the Black and Whites new star man.
Noting his switch to full-back, Peters said: “I think that was going to be their longer term plan now that Cade’s back anyway, so we expect that’s what they’re going to play with this week.
“I think Will’s probably best position is full-back, he gets him running the ball. He’s a dangerous runner. He made that line break on the weekend, made a good line break against us. He’s a dangerous runner on the football.”
Assessing the remainder of the Hull FC spine, he’d add: “Cade Cust is a competitor. That’s what I admire about Cade so they’ve got a good balance there with Aidan Sezer, who sort of manages it all. They’ve got a good spine.”
There was also praise for one of the club’s strike players out wide with 12-try Lewis Martin referenced and even compared to Wigan star and England international Liam Marshall, who put on a show as Wigan beat the Robins 28-12.
Peters explained: “Liam Marshall was hard to tackle and he was very good for them and we play Lewis Martin this week, for example, he’s very similar. When I say similar, he can cause you problems with his backfield carry so we need to improve that this week.”
The Robins missed 55 tackles in that loss, something they’ll need to fix up when dealing with the likes of Martin, Pryce and the other threats their rivals carry.
