Mikey Lewis picked up the Man of the Match medal as Hull KR hammered Toulouse Olympique but the former Man of Steel piled the praise on one of his teammates, who he felt was potentially more deserving.
Lewis was one of several standout performers as Hull KR won 46-0 in France, picking up their fourth win in a row and moving into the top six of Super League for the first time this season.
Whilst Lewis picked up three assists, playing partner Tyrone May continued his own great form as he bagged two and had a hand in several others, and when asked about the former NRL man Lewis was full of praise.
“(He’s) so good,” Lewis told Sky Sports, adding: “He steers the ship around so well. We’ve been playing together for two or three years. I feel like we should know each other inside out.
“I feel like, especially this last month, he’s really come out and really performed. I thought he deserved this tonight because he was phenomenal again, like he’s been for the last three or four weeks. Anyone could have got it tonight. The credit’s to the boys.”
Whilst Hull KR were brilliant, the scoreboard did take a while to get ticking with the Robins only 6-0 in front after half an hour and Lewis admitted that Rovers were ‘scrappy’ before finding their groove.
He said: “We know we didn’t get to the best start (to the season) and we’re coming here for a job to do and get those two points so we can go home. That first half, the first 20 minutes were scrappy and then we grew into the game and the points come on the back of that.
“That belief and the connection in this squad, we knew we’d come on the other side.”

Hull KR hoping to send Willie Peters out on top
Hull KR did start to pile the points on and Lewis was at the heart of that but he was also at the heart of one of the key in-game battles, with opposition half-back Cesar Rouge regularly becoming embroiled with the former Man of Steel.
Asked about that, Lewis shrugged it off, stating: “I’m just born to win. I want to win every game as I can. I enjoy the battles. Sometimes you’re not on the right side of it, but tonight I was. I really enjoyed it”, before then heaping praise on Toulouse and the value they bring to Super League.
“It’s a fantastic stadium. Toulouse do so much for this league and it’s a credit to them what they’ve put on. Playing at these grounds, coming over here and playing in front of these fans, especially our travelling fans as well. I think there’s about 600, 700 who pay their own money to come and watch us play every week. That win was for them. ”
Lewis was also asked about the upcoming exit of head coach Willie Peters and if that had helped create a galvanising effect, with Lewis agreeing that the playing group do intend to send Peters out the right way.
He said: “What Willie’s done for us as a team, for this club, he deserves to go out the right way. All the boys love him to death. We’ve got the connection between each other.
“We haven’t really spoken about it, but when he told us that news, I feel like when we went out to perform, I think it was St Helens after that, and we put a real good performance in.
“We’ve just got to keep working hard and just put him out the right way as he deserves because he works tirelessly to prepare us every week. It’s enjoyable to be working with him.”
