Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has revealed how the club plan to navigate travelling to Toulouse, something that has plagued several Super League clubs so far in 2026.
Castleford Tigers have been among those affected with the West Yorkshire club having to travel to the French club via Germany on both legs of their journey, something that resulted in a very lengthy trip and ultimately didn’t help as they lost at the Stade Ernest Wallon.
Rovers’ clash against the Olympians on Friday night will be their second and final regular season trip to France and they’re taking a very different approach to the one they took back in March when they lost to Catalans.
On that occasion, the club travelled out early but this time around they are heading out on the day after circumventing the difficult commercial flights by chartering a plane to take them directly to Toulouse.
As such, the Robins will set off on Friday morning, land and settle at the hotel, travel to and play in the game, before flying back to England all in one day.
Speaking to media before Friday’s game, Peters explained the decision: “We’re just going in and out on that day. We want to leave in the morning and we see it as a similar sort of trip going over towards Wigan and Saints.
“It’s a little bit longer, but in terms of flights, it’s around the same. We’ll stay in a hotel in the daytime and prepare similar to what we do over there, so that seems to work for us.”

Of course it is very different than simply taking the M62 to cross over the Pennines but Peters and the club are viewing it the same, with that obviously being preparation that they are used to.
The Australian explained: “How we wanted to approach it was similar to going to Manchester. So, it takes a couple of hours to get over there. We used to go to a hotel and then we go play.
“It is a little bit longer. The travel is still two hours albeit on a flight and then you’ve got a little bit in between there to get to the airport here.”
A key driver for the decision was the fact that KR want to afford their players some time off before the round nine game against Bradford Bulls, eight days after Friday’s game.
By returning to England on Friday night, Hull KR effectively get back a day that they would have otherwise lost travelling with Peters explaining it’s something they’ve done in past years when flying to Perpignan.
“We want to give the players some time off so, we want to come back that night,” he said.
“That’s how we’ve approached it. We did it a few years back against Catalans and we can’t do that just due to flights and things like that when we play them so we targeted this game to do that.
“We believe that’s our best prep for this game and hopefully it is.”
