Hull KR handed welcome injury news ahead of Leeds Rhinos clash

Hull KR

Hull KR face one of their toughest tests in Super League on Sunday and they’ve been handed welcome injury news for that Leeds Rhinos clash.

The Robins have lost just once in 2025 with that defeat coming at home to Wigan earlier this year, however, Leeds Rhinos pushed them very close when the teams met at Headingley in late April.

Hull KR won 20-14 but trailed 14-6 approaching the final ten minutes before Jack Broadbent’s try sparked a comeback in which James Batchelor and Mikey Lewis also scored.

James Batchelor will miss out once again due to his throat injury, however, Willie Peters explained that the second-rower was “not too bad” and could be back soon.

Speaking to the press to preview the clash with Leeds, Peters said: “He won’t play this week but he’s slowly getting there He’s getting his voice back, which is good so it’s just one of those that we’ll just take our time with and just make sure he’s okay before he returns.”

Batchelor was one of four Hull KR players selected to Shaun Wane’s extended 32-man squad with Jez Litten, Mikey Lewis and Elliot Minchella the others.

Whilst Batchelor won’t return for the clash against Leeds on Sunday at Craven Park, a couple of others could and Peters pointed to the longer turnaround as being beneficial.

He explained: “We’ve had some short turnarounds since Wembley. There’s been a couple of six day turnarounds there, and we’ve got an eight-dayer in this time around so, it’s been good for the guys to recover.

“We’re hopeful of getting a couple back, but we’ll know more later on in the week.”

Two of those could be forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Micky McIlorum with the coach confirming: “Both will be named and then they’re just going to both go through fitness testing and all that sort of thing to get through the week. Then we’ll make a call whether it’s going to be this week or whether they play next week.”

He also confirmed that Rhyse Martin and Joe Burgess, who both returned from injury last week, had come through fine before he detailed how the Robins plan to manage Martin’s minutes given he has returned from a four-month lay-off.

“Now it’s pretty much how he handles game intensity,” Peters said of the Papua New Guinean who is set to face former club Leeds on Sunday.

“If he’s out there and we see him moving well and he’s in the game, then he can potentially go 80 minutes and play the whole game.

“If we don’t think he’s doing his job the best he can because of fatigue and that type of thing, then we’ll look to bring him off.

“I’d like to see him be able to increase the minutes and increase what he does for longer periods.”
