Hull KR forward Sauasao Sue escapes huge ban with reason revealed

Hull KR forward Sauaso Sue has learned his disciplinary fate following accusations of spitting were made in the Challenge Cup Final.

The Robins left it late with Tom Davies’ try coming in the dying minutes to level the scores, with Mikey Lewis’ conversion pushing them 8-6 in front and to the club’s first major trophy since 1985.

An incredible day for Hull KR was marred by the disciplinary outcome though with Joe Burgess and James Batchelor dealt Grade B and Grade C charges respectively, however, prop forward Sue saw his case sent to an Operational Rules Tribunal.

Approaching the 60th minute, shortly after Sue had knocked on, Josh Thewlis made a formal accusation of spitting which referee Liam Moore put on report. When looked at by the Match Review Panel, they handed him a Grade E charge which automatically sent the case to tonight’s Operational Rules Tribunal.

If found guilty, he could face a lengthy ban and be walking a disciplinary tightrope for the remainder of the season. Heading into the tribunal, he had 1.5 points on his record.

Hull KR forward Sauasao Sue not guilty of spitting

The Operational Rules Tribunal have handed down their verdict to Hull KR and Sauaso Sue with the forward found not guilty of the charge of spitting.

An RFL statement confirmed that Sue did not deliberately spit in the direction of a Warrington player.

The verdict read: “Sauaso Sue of Hull KR has been found not guilty of a Grade E charge of spitting at a Warrington player in the Betfred Challenge Cup Final on Saturday.

“While there was no doubt that he did spit, the independent Operational Rules Tribunal determined that he did not do so deliberately in the direction of a Warrington player.”

It’s a massive boost for Hull KR who not only get to keep their prop forward for the upcoming games, but they also avoid having him walk a disciplinary tightrope for the remainder of the year.

The other case at the Operational Rules Tribunal saw Kelly Friend of Barrow Raiders contest a charge of dangerous contact with the Cumbrian outfit arguing a case of mistaken identity. As such, the five penalty points have been added to Kerrie-Anne Smith’s record instead.
