Hull KR face nervy disciplinary wait ahead of World Club Challenge after ‘crazy’ Mikey Lewis sin bin

Hull KR will face a nervy wait to find out the disciplinary verdict before the World Club Challenge after Mikey Lewis’ sin bin in their shock 19-18 defeat to York Knights.

Lewis was sent to the sin bin by referee Liam Rush after tripping opposition half-back Liam Harris in a reckless challenge that could well result in a ban, depending how the Match Review Panel view his actions.

Any ban would mean that Lewis misses the World Club Challenge next Thursday against Brisbane Broncos, making Lewis’ trip even more of a brain explosion.

At mid-field on the fifth tackle, York Knights skipper Liam Harris went to kick a grubber. Mikey Lewis applied pressure but was at least a metre away when Harris kicked it, however, he still chose to stretch out his right foot and trip up Liam Harris, resulting in his silly sin bin.

“Ohhh, what’s he doing? What on earth is Mikey Lewis doing,” asked co-commentator Kyle Amor with the former St Helens man in disbelief at Lewis’ actions.

Lead commentator Mark Wilson quickly noted the possible repercussions, stating: “Well, Mikey Lewis is going to be in big trouble here and when you think about what is coming up in the next couple of weeks, this is madness.”

After a replay, Amor continued: “That is crazy. What on earth is he doing? That could be very very costly. I’m not interested in this game but you’ve got a World Club Challenge next week. You can’t even disguise that.

“He’s shaking his head but it’s a foolish and potentially costly mistake in arguably the biggest week of Hull KR history.”

As Lewis trudged off the field, Wilson concluded: “He has only himself to blame and that will leave to a pretty nervy weekend ahead. He’s smiking now but that was insanity from Lewis.”

Lewis’ left edge was then exposed as York scored to cut the deficit to 18-12, before then scoring another try and kicking a drop goal to win 19-18 in a historic night in Super League.

The Match Review Panel will meet on Monday meaning Hull KR and Mikey Lewis face a long weekend wait to find out if their star man picks up a ban. It is believed that he is on zero penalty points so would need a Grade C charge or less to avoid a ban.
