Hull KR boss Willie Peters shared his surprise following the news that forward Dean Hadley has not been included in the England performance squad ahead of the announcement due on Monday.
Whilst he couldn’t share who had been selected by England boss Shaun Wane, Peters did mention that Hadley was not going to be a member of the extended squad for the international side.
In fact, the Hull KR boss was full of praise for the utility forward and insisted that he’s hoping that he still has time to make the squad between now and the end of the season.
Talking to the press following Hull KR’s victory over Wakefield Trinity on Friday night, he said: “I’m not sure if Wane’s going to add any more. I won’t say any more because it’s for him to comment on, but hopefully there are a few more along the way.
“One guy that’s not in there is Dean Hadley. I think he’s outstanding, and he would not look out of place in a squad like that. He’s a worker, he’s one of the first picked every week for us.
“Tonight, he’s come off with about ten minutes to go, I could’ve left him on the field, and he could’ve kept playing on his own now. That’s the type of player he is, and he’s a guy that others want to play with.”
Willie Peters on what he admires most about Hull KR forward
The Hull KR boss shared that even before he joined the club, he was impressed by the 32-year-old’s performances, highlighting some of the work he does off the ball as well as doing the unseen stuff.
He added: “I think Dean’s been an underrated player since before I came. Not many people were talking about Dean Hadley, but when I watched the games.
“He’s the one that stood out for me because I just looked at where he’s putting his head, other players didn’t want to do that, how many carries he was taking, the minutes he was playing, cleaning up for others, all that sort of stuff.
“I believe if Dean were selected, he would not let the country down. I also think the other guys who haven’t played with him would see the value in just how valuable he is to us.”
