Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has responded to reports the club are making a bid to sign Hull FC half Jack Charles.
Charles has featured little this season but he was one of several young guns thrust into the fire last year when injuries hit a struggling Hull FC side.
As such, he already has 19 Super League appearances despite being only 19 but just two of those have come in 2025 with the youngster used as a utility off the bench in Rounds 16 and 18.
Reports emerged from Hull Live that KR had launched an attempt to sign the talented teen for the 2026 season, despite Charles being under contract.
Currently, the Robins have Mikey Lewis and Tyrone May both tied down to either 2027 or beyond whilst third-choice half Danny Richardson is contracted until the end of 2026.
Charles would offer a very solid option and someone who the club can develop given the lack of academy players who have progressed.
Hull KR coach comments on Jack Charles’ reports
Willie Peters was asked about the club’s current recruitment in the midst of recent ‘rumours’ and he initially played it with a straight bat.
He explained: “We’re ongoing with that. Recruitment, we don’t have a great deal left (salary cap) for next year. You’re always looking. Paul Lakin is always talking to managers and vice versa so that’s ongoing.
“Things change in Rugby League. You never say never, but at this stage we can’t announce that we’re bringing anyone in in the short term or at this stage, but things change in Rugby League so that may change.”
When asked specifically about the reports linking Hull KR with Charles, Peters still played his cards close to his chest but confirmed the teen was someone he admired.
Peters responded: “Oh, certainly admire him. Yeah, there’s nothing to talk about at the moment or give any details, but he’s certainly a good young half. He lives in the area and he’s an exciting young half.
“As I said before, I do think he’s an exciting player.”
Charles’ father Chris played over 200 games for Hull KR from 1993 to 2002 and if reports are true then his son could follow in his footsteps.
