Hull KR boss Willie Peters has confirmed that wing ace Joe Burgess will return to the side this week against Castleford Tigers.
Burgess missed out in last week’s win over Bradford Bulls through illness, but after making a full recovery he will be available for selection as the club look for their sixth win in a row.
The England international has been in electric form to start the season, scoring 10 tries in seven appearances whilst also averaging over 100 metres per game.
In what is a boost that just makes an alreasy strong KR side even more threatening, Peters revealed the former Wigan and Salford man would make his comeback against the Tigers.
Another man who could make his return this week is Oliver Gildart, who was another absentee in that trip to Odsal.
On the centre, Peters said: “He had a bit of a troubled ankle, but he’s okay as well. So, yeah, looking reasonably healthy and it’s good to have those guys [Gildart and Burgess] back in the squad.
“…You can’t help the injuries that he [Gildart]’s had. They’re just unlucky, rugby league injuries.
“He’s had a couple of major ones there, but when he’s played, he’s been a really key part to our squad, certainly last year and again this year, the start of the season.
“So, yeah, looking forward to seeing him build his game this Thursday.”
Hull KR boss sets out Arthur Mourgue return game
One player who isn’t quite ready to return just yet is full-back Arthur Mourgue, who has been out since the World Club Challenge win with a pectoral injury.
Whilst he won’t feature, there is positvie news about his recovery, with the club eyeing one fixtre in particular as his return game.
“It was the Leigh game that we’re looking at. We’ll know a bit more next week, but at the moment, yeah, looking at Leigh.”
Asked if there was any possibility at all that Mourgue could make the Challenge Cup semi-final squad, he replied: “We’ve just got to wait. It’s one of those injuries. It’s just time. You don’t want to rush it too much.
“So, look, you know, there’s a possibility it could be next week. But at this stage, it’ll be late.”
Peters was questioned in last week’s press conference, prior to the Bulls win, how he will eventually go about choosing between Mourgue and Jack Broadbent, who has been a sensational back-up for the Robins.
He said: “It’s always tough, and I think it makes it tougher because Jack’s starting to hit form now.
“We speak obviously around his game and he had a really strong pre-season, but that sort of didn’t transfer early on with his performances, which can happen.
“But because he’s had that strong pre-season, you do find your way and find your feet and I think he’s doing that now. He seems to be moving better.
“…We’ll worry about that [selection issue] when it happens, but we hope that we’re in a position that we have to make some tough calls because we’re going to have to and we will in terms of our forwards at the moment.
“It’s a good position to be in, so I’m not complaining there.
“I’m just pleased to see Jack back to the form that we know he’s capable of.”
