Hull KR head coach Willie Peters asked for more from his team despite a nine-try win that saw them progress to the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.
Leading 30-6 at half-time, Hull KR won the second half just 22-6, however, they didn’t score a point after the 60th minute with the Robins’ ruthless streak ending and errors creeping in during their 52-12 win.
They also ended the game with the Giants scoring on the final possession as Taane Milne intercepted Tyrone May’s expansive pass, with Milne also creating and scoring the Giants’ long-range try in the first half.
Speaking post-match on the Sportsman YouTube channel, Peters admitted: “I thought it got sloppy at the back end.
“Obviously, we did enough to win and that’s all you need to do in the Challenge Cup but I thought that the last 20 minutes, there’s a lot to look at there and sort of work on.
“As I said, we got the result, which is the main thing.”
Hull KR boss praises attacking shape
Whilst the errors late on disappointed the Hull KR boss, he was pleased with how Rovers played as they showcased an expansive style that saw them score plenty of tries from deep.
Peters said: “We scored some nice tries. It was good to see with the players expressing themselves. We like to promote that and it was good to see them score some long-range tries today.
“We moved some players around in the back end and we just didn’t look as fluent. So we just need to make sure that it doesn’t matter who’s in, that we still look the same.”
Those errors also allowed for the Robins to get plenty of reps at defending their goal-line, repelling all of Huddersfield’s attacks in those circumstances.
“Our goal in D was the most pleasing,” Peters said, adding: “I think we had like 30 play the balls inside our 20. Obviously, it was an intercept and a long range try that they scored. Goal line D was pleasing and something that we want to maintain for next week.”
As for an assessment on if his side have turned around their ailing start to the year, Peters said: “We’ve obviously played Huddersfield twice now. They’ve got their fair share of injuries and some problems with that at the moment in terms of injuries.
“For us now, we’re focused on Catalans next week and we’re looking forward to that.”
