Willie Peters is delighted with the job Noah Booth is already doing at Hull KR but insists he will be better after a pre-season with the club. Booth was snapped up by Rovers in January from Wakefield Trinity before the youngster was sent out on loan to Championship side Hunslet.
He made eight appearances for Hunslet, scoring six tries, before being recalled by the Robins to step into Peters’ first-team plans. Since then he has made four Super League outings for KR with his debut coming on May 3 against Salford Red Devils.
With Joe Burgess being out injured, Booth has featured in KR’s last two games, too, touching down against Catalans Dragons before scoring a brace in the win over Castleford Tigers last time out.
Indeed the 20-year-old has demonstrated his talent and potential in a red and white shirt and Peters has been pleased with what he has seen from him so far. However, the head coach is confident that Booth will be better for a pre-season at Craven Park in order to unlock just what he is capable of.
“He’s doing a really good job at the moment,” Peters said prior to last Thursday’s win over Castleford. “Noah is going to be better after a pre-season with us and I’m not saying Wakefield’s pre-season wasn’t up to standard because you can see how fit they are and how well they’re doing.
“But once he’s been in our environment from Monday to Friday, long hours, a tough pre-season, most of the players come out better for it. They don’t like it at the time but he’s someone that will no doubt improve and his best rugby is ahead.
“He’s certainly offering a lot now and when we brought him in, we wanted to bring a player in that was going to compete for a spot and he’s certainly doing that. That’s what we want.”
With Burgess fighting to be fit for Friday’s clash with Wakefield Trinity, it remains to be seen if Booth will be giving the chance to take on his former club at Craven Park, as Hull KR look to move six points at the top of the table for 24 hours at the very least.
