Hull KR boss issues James Batchelor injury update ahead of Leigh Leopards

Hull KR boss Willie Peters admits any decision on James Batchelor’s availability this week will be made by the back-rower.

The Robins will be looking to bounce back to winning ways on Saturday when they take on Leigh Leopards following last weekend’s loss to Leeds Rhinos.

KR were without Batchelor last week with the forward, who has recently been called up to the England squad missing the club’s last two games due to the throat injury he picked up against Castleford Tigers last month.

He’s on the verge of a return now, though and can be expected to be named in KR’s 21-man squad for the trip to Leigh Sports Village, which will be released this lunchtime. However, Peters will let Batchelor make the call on whether he’ll be able to play or not, given the nature of the injury.

Hull KR boss gives James Batchelor injury update

“James is not too bad, so we just need to see how he is at the back end of the week. He’s done minimal contact, but we’ll just see where he’s at,” Peters said in his pre-match press conference.

“There’s a chance he could play, but there won’t be any risks either at the same time. It’ll be on Batch whether he wants to play or not.

“It’s one of those where we’re not going to force him, it needs to be player driven. We’ll wait and see where he’s at. It’s whether he feels comfortable in contact, and whether he feels that he’s OK to play. It’ll be on James. It’s an injury in a sensitive spot and we don’t want further damage and he doesn’t either.

“It’s going to be one where if he feels OK to play, he’ll play. If he doesn’t, then he’ll go another week.”
