Hull KR boss gives James Batchelor injury update amid key selection call

Coach Willie Peters has a big decision to make this week after Hull KR man Mikey Lewis was ruled out of their next match.

The Super League leaders played around 50 minutes of yesterday’s (Sunday) 14-8 home loss to Leeds Rhinos without Man of Steel Lewis following a failed a head injury assessment in the first half.

Under the RFL’s concussion protocol, that automatically rules the stand-off out of Saturday’s huge game at fourth-placed Leigh Leopards.

Hooker Jez Litten went into the halves during yesterday’s defeat and Peters said: “It’s something we need to look at.

“I think we missed Jez out of nine with his speed and he’s a left-footed kicker as well. It’s something the coaching staff will have to discuss during the week.”

Play-maker Danny Richardson is on loan at Salford Red Devils and asked if he could be recalled, Peters added: “Possibly, we will have a chat and look at all our options.”

Lewis went off following a bizarre incident late in the first half. Referee Chris Kendall felt he had knocked on in Harry Newman’s tackle, but Hull KR challenged that and video official Liam Rush awarded them a penalty for a high shot.

Peters commented: “I don’t want to say too much on it. I’ll have a look at it. There’s probably a bit of learning there – I don’t think it is too bad, because he is fine.”

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Peters was unaware of an incident of alleged eye-gouging by a Hull KR player which was placed on report, admitting: “That’s the first I’ve heard of it.”

Peters said Rovers got through the game with no other major injuries and second-rower James Batchelor has a chance of returning this weekend, though he conceded: “There’s no guarantees with that one.”
