Hull KR boss ‘excited’ over ‘versatile’ youngster touted to take huge steps

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has highlighted one of the club’s young guns who he is “excited” about the development of, despite admitting that it might take another two seasons for the Robins to really reap the rewards.

That player is outside back Noah Booth, who joined the Robins in January as part of a swap deal with Wakefield Trinity which saw winger Neil Tchamabe head the other way.

Trinity had previously agreed a season-long loan deal with Championship side Hunslet for Booth and Hull KR initially kept that up, however, they moved to recall him with Booth now becoming a regular in the club’s 21-man squads.

He’s played in the club’s last two Super League fixtures, scoring on debut at Magic Weekend, and he could be set for more opportunities as the season progresses, particularly if the Robins continue to rest players ahead of the Challenge Cup Final.

Booth took his chance on the wing at Magic Weekend when both Joe Burgess and Tom Davies were out, and he replaced the rested Peta Hiku last week against Huddersfield. We’ve predicted he could play in lieu of a potentially rested Jack Broadbent tonight.

Willie Peters issues wait and see type verdict as Hull KR centre tipped for success

But what has Willie Peters had to say about this young talent? The Hull KR boss spoke at length about Booth and how impressed he has been so far, as well as forecasting how much better the centre can become in a short period of time.

“He’s doing a good job for us,” Peters admitted, adding: “He obviously played on the wing the first game and then played in the centres so that shows he’s a versatile player. He can play full-back as well.

“He’s an athlete and as I said all along, he hasn’t had a pre-season with us, so he’s only going to get better.”

Labelling Booth as a player that “you want to develop”, Peters spoke on the development that could happen following a pre-season or two with the club.

“He’s young, he’s fit, he’s strong, but as I say, a pre-season with us, he’ll develop even further. It’s really important at a younger age, you start creating good habits of how you want to train and how you want to prepare and what a professional looks like.

“He’s ticking all those boxes and that’s why he’s getting the opportunity. I’ve always said it with our young players, they need to earn the right to wear the jersey and he’s earned the right in this short space of time.”

Peters added: “I’m excited to see where he can go because as I say, after a pre-season or two, not necessarily just one, a couple of pre-seasons with us, he’ll be better for it.

“He’s well liked already amongst the group because they can trust him. They see what he does at training and he’s a good person, he’s a good fellow. That’s the most important thing and he works hard. He ticks a lot of the boxes of what a KR player looks like.”

Hull KR play Warrington Wolves tonight in a Challenge Cup Final dress rehearsal with Booth in contention to get a third start in a row.
