Hull KR boss’ early Arthur Mourgue take one month on from Catalans Dragons switch

Willie Peters couldn’t be happier with how Arthur Mourgue has settled in at Hull KR since making the move from Catalans Dragons. Mourgue completed his switch to Craven Park last month after agreeing to make the move early following Niall Evalds’ loan switch to Huddersfield Giants.

Since then he has made three appearances for the Robins, with tries coming against Huddersfield Giants and Hull FC on Good Friday. His performance against the latter was by far the best of his short time in east Hull so far, with the full-back playing a key role in KR’s win over their bitter city rivals.

Mourgue took everything in the air, made 122 metres and more than looked the part at the back for Rovers, who retained their spot at the top of the table with a 28-14 win, and Peters believes his showing underlined just how well the Frenchman is adapting to life in East Yorkshire.

Willie Peters lauds Hull KR arrival Arthur Mourgue

“I thought Arthur Mourgue was tremendous,” Peters said after the game at the MKM Stadium. “That game needed individuals to break it open and he did that a few times.

“I thought he was brave when we got the knock to the head, that was a brave effort to put himself in that position. That’s what you want from your full-back.

“He’s settled so quickly. His partner has only just come over this week and he’s been on his own for a while. Internally we’re just talking about how quickly he has settled and I think you saw that with his game.

“He played really well at Huddersfield and it was a tough game against Wigan but I thought he handled himself OK there and he stepped up again against a good team today. I’m really happy with how he’s settled.

“He’s a good person and what I like is he is a rugby head, he turns up to training before and after everyone else. He’ll come in on his days off and kick and he’ll watch games, which is few and far between these days, players don’t like watching games but he certainly does.”
