Super League pundit makes ‘travesty’ Grand Final claim after Hull KR Wembley glory

Super League pundit Kyle Amor has ruled on the Challenge Cup Final and what it means for Hull KR, Warrington Wolves, and the Grand Final at the end of the season.

The Robins beat Warrington in dramatic circumstances with Tom Davies’ late try securing an 8-6 win and ensuring silverware returns to East Hull for the first time since 1985.

Amor has given his verdict on both teams in the aftermath of the game, raising serious questions about Warrington Wolves and making a claim about Hull KR and the 2025 Grand Final.

“Whoever lost that, there were question marks,” Amor said of the Challenge Cup Final on The Sportsman Rugby League YouTube channel.

“There are question marks now at Warrington. They threw all their eggs into this, they’re sat way down in the table.

“Can they rescue their season? Only time will tell but there might be a little bit too much water under the bridge for them to do that.”

Should Warrington lose this weekend against Leeds Rhinos and results elsewhere go against them, the Wolves would find themselves four points adrift of the top six as we pass the halfway stage of the season.

‘Travesty’ if Wigan and Hull KR don’t meet in the Grand Final, claims Amor

In contrast, Hull KR won that game and sit top of Super League with serious ambition of a double or even treble when it comes to silverware in 2025, however, it was almost very different.

Amor argued: “If Willie Peters would have lost that, you would put that group into the category of ‘bottlers’ wouldn’t you? You would, but they didn’t and could that be the catalyst for what they need to do now and finish the season strong.”

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, he claimed: “I think it would be a travesty for the game if it wasn’t a rematch (at Old Trafford for the Grand Final). The way the season has gone this year, there are a top two, then everybody else plus a bottom three.

“It would be a travesty if those two sides (Hull KR and Wigan Warriors) didn’t get to Old Trafford, and going back to that (Challenge Cup) win, psychologically that means they can believe more than ever that they can win a big game.

“Not only that but they can be behind until the final minute 90 seconds and still win. If they’d have lost then what would that have done to that group? I’m not too sure.”

Willie Peters’ side face must-win game after Challenge Cup win

Having had the highest of highs on Saturday afternoon and celebrating that with their city on Sunday evening after a parade through town, Hull KR must now quickly redial their focus on Super League.

When they lost the Challenge Cup Final in 2023, they only had six games of the regular season remaining. After a loss against St Helens a week after Wembley, the Robins won five straight heading into the play-offs.

Willie Peters confirmed the club will now break the season into blocks with a break scheduled in six weeks time, and Amor doesn’t doubt that Rovers will be ready to push on further. To show they’re capable of doing that, they must beat Catalans Dragons in his opinion.

The ex-St Helens man said: “Knowing and having worked under an Australian coach, they will quickly flip back to their task at top of the league and asking if they want to go and win the League Leaders Shield.”

As for Friday, he claimed: “The result won’t define their season but I think that if Hull KR are going to be the team that are going to really learn and become continual winners then they have to win this game.

“I expect a ruthless performance. It might not be polished or perfect but they’re playing against a team that are struggling.”

Ridiculous comment. based ocurrent league positions, fair enough, but if Wigan or Rovers have a dip in form or injuries to key players, they could find themselves out of the top two, so pretty pointless observation only half way through the season..
