Will Pryce has spoken to the media to talk on the motivations behind his move to Hull FC and even answer questions about a possible NRL return.
Pryce will make his fourth appearance for Hull FC this weekend when the Black and Whites host Wigan Warriors with the former Newcastle Knights man having played Hull KR twice already, and Warrington once.
It’s been a trial by fire on his Super League return with the playmaker playing against two of Super League’s toughest sides with another to come this weekend, however, he has settled well.
Initially thrust in at half-back on short notice, Pryce has since moved to full-back and found more freedom there. He would that he doesn’t have a preference in regards to position but spoke more on the motivations behind his return to England.
After signing with Newcastle Knights for the 2024 season on a two-year deal, Pryce returned to England early when Hull FC managed to lure him back and he’s spoken on that.
Why Will Pryce made the move back to Super League
On the key motivator behind the switch, he explained: “Obviously just a bit of frustration on my part, probably not being where I wanted to be in Australia coming off of a good pre-season and not playing first grade, I wanted to try and get involved on that professional level as much as I could.”
Pryce did debut for the Knights in 2024 and went on to make five appearances, however, he wasn’t afforded a chance in 2025 despite the Newcastle attack misfiring.
Family was also another major reason for his return, as he noted: “I’m getting older a bit now, I’m 22, and made my debut at 18, so when you’re kept back a bit you can get frustrated and I think being on the other side of the world away from your family at a young age had a lot of involvement in that.
“I wanted to get back home, I’ve got a young brother, I want to see him grow up and be around my mum and dad and my sister. I’ve got quite a close-knit type group at home and probably moving away, that showed me how much I missed them and how much I do need them.”
“Who knows?” – Hull FC man Will Pryce comments on possible NRL return
Richie Myler has had a big impact in the short time he has been involved with Hull FC and he was pivotal in making the move happen, with Pryce also crediting head coach John Cartwright for selling him on the move.
The 22-year-old said: “I think Richie got in touch with my manager and just said there’s an opportunity here if he wants to come home and I sort of saw what John had been making and we had a chat on the phone and he sort of sold it to me really.
“The club’s going in a real good direction and I’m here for the long haul for that I want to be a part of that and I think we can do something really special in the next few years.”
Whilst his NRL career didn’t take off, Pryce believes it was instrumental in developing his game, labelling it “massive for my career”.
He added:”On the field it’s’s massive the things I can see now due to the coaching I’ve had. I can’t really fault what they’ve done. If anybody ever asks me any questions about the coaches I’ve had, it’s been phenomenal for my career really and what they’ve done.”
Still at such a young age, an NRL return could well be on the cards but Pryce wasn’t drawn on that, responding: “Who knows, I think for me I’m focused right now on Hull and being here. I’m present in each game, week to week. I’m enjoying playing week in, week out, rugby league in front of our fans who are absolutely tremendous.”
