Leeds Rhinos’ loanee Harry Newman headlines the squad named by Hull FC for their Super League clash against an injury-hit St Helens.
England centre Newman has been out of favour in recent weeks at Leeds and that’s resulted in a short-term loan move to West Hull following the injury to centre Arthur Romano.
Newman has been parachuted straight into the 21-man squad for Thursday night’s game against St Helens, a match that will have plenty of eyeballs given the current situation at Hull FC regarding head coach John Cartwright.
Confirmed by the club last Tuesday that Cartwright would leave at the end of the season, the Australian spoke to the media on Monday to reveal that the decision was ‘not mutual’ whilst also claiming he felt ‘betrayed’.
Whether his position is tenable is to be seen but there’s still a big game on Thursday and FC welcome the in-form but injury-hit St Helens, with the Red Vee having lost two more to injury in their recent Challenge Cup win.
Lewis Murphy suffered an apparent dislocated elbow whilst it’s been confirmed that Jake Wingfield will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury. Both men obviously drop out of the 21-man squad named by Paul Rowley.
