Hull FC sign another homegrown star to long-term deal in ‘smart piece of business’

Hull FC have completed another ‘smart piece of business’ after signing one of their homegrown stars to an extended contract.

Fresh off the back of securing last year’s Super League top try scorer Lewis Martin to a new five-year contract, the Black and Whites have signed his wing partner Harvey Barron to a similar deal.

Barron only signed a new contract with Hull FC last season but that deal only tied the 22-year-old down until the end of the 2027 season. Now, the club have extended that deal by a further two years to keep him at the MKM Stadium until the end of the 2029 season.

It means that there is a real core group of young homegrown players who are now contracted to 2028 or beyond with backs Davy Litten (’28), Harvey Barron (’29) and Lewis Martin (’30) at the heart of it, without mentioning other stars such as Herman Ese’ese and Harvie Hill who are both contracted until the end of 2029.

Harvey Barron signs new Hull FC deal

Hull FC have announced the new deal for Barron on the eve of the 2026 Super League season, just two hours before the competition kicks off.

A club statement announced: “Hull FC are delighted to confirm that Harvey Barron has signed two-year contract extension with his hometown club.

“The winger, who had penned a deal to remain with the Black & Whites until the end of the 2027 season last year, has now signed a further two-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of 2029.”

Barron has made 44 appearances since his 2022 debut, scoring 25 tries in that time with 15 coming in 24 appearances last season. He’s already crossed the whitewash this year, scoring in the Challenge Cup win over Salford RLFC.

Speaking to club media, the 22-year-old explained that re-signing was an ‘easy decision to make’, adding: “Over the years, the club has backed me a lot on and off the field, so when Richie came along and put an offer on the table, the only option for me was to sign it and I’m over the moon to be here for another four years and however many more in the future.

“I feel like, individually, last year was my best to date, so it’s great to have been offered a contract extension and a chance to sort my long-term future out – now I can just focus on playing rugby.”

“Only going to get better” – Club legend hails winger after new deal

Director of rugby Gareth Ellis said: “Harvey’s development over the last couple of years speaks for itself. He’s a real athlete.

“Securing his services for an additional two years on top of his previous deal is a smart piece of business, because he is only going to get better year on year.”

He also touted the six foot three inch-tall winger to benefit from the new faster rucks, particularly with Barron having developed into his frame across the last season.

Ellis said: “I think fans can see how his body frame has grown in the last 18 months, which enables him to be a key asset for us in backfield, especially bearing in mind the faster rucks that will be in play this season.”

Fans will first have a chance to see Barron in Super League action this year on Saturday, with Hull FC hosting new boys Bradford Bulls in a 5:30 pm kick-off.
