Watch as Hull FC man sent off in “moment of madness” at Magic Weekend

Hull FC

Hull FC have seen one man sent to the sin bin and another sent off versus Huddersfield Giants in what has been described as a moment of madness by those on the Sky Sports punditry team.

In the first game of the second day of Magic Weekend, many expected Hull FC to ease past Huddersfield Giants but Luke Robinson’s team have turned up and put in a very strong performance.

They lead at the break 8-6 through a George Flanagan penalty and a converted Leroy Cudjoe try and they’re well worthy of that lead in what has become a very feisty game.

Tom Burgess was sent to the sin bin for a shoulder charge in the final five minutes of the half but Hull FC then saw Sam Eseh sin binned and Liam Knight sent off as the game erupted on the eve of the half-time hooter.

Eseh’s shot on Matty English was high and direct contact to the head with the mitigation being the rapid loss of height for English. Referee Aaron Moore pleaded with the captains to control their players after a melee erupted following that shot, however, his words fell on deaf ears.

Liam Knight lined Sam Hewitt up and made clear and direct contact with his shoulder to the head of the ball-carrier, earning him his marching orders.

Hull FC red card receives unanimous verdict from pundits

A protesting Knight had it explained to him: “It’s forceful and dangerous, it’s a clear direct shoulder to the head and there is no mitigation. You can’t hit him in the head direct with the shoulder.”

Now the Sky Sports pundits have had their say with Kyle Amor claiming it was “not needed at all” and something that would infuriate head coach John Cartwright.

“John Cartwright will be absolutely furious and I’ve no doubt that there will be some stern words there,” explained Amor.

Jon Wilkin added: “It’s reckless and it’s a red card. We’re speaking a lot about whether reds and yellows are deserved but that is. It was a mad play from Knight and it’s really possible it coul cost Hull FC the game.”

Brian Carney labelled it a “moment of madness” as well with the Black and Whites set to start the second half with just 11 men.
