Hull FC quartet among eight players banned as whopping 23 charges confirmed by Super League disciplinary

The Super League disciplinary verdict following Round 25 has been confirmed with several players charged and banned.

A Grade E charge handed down to Jack Ashworth is among the most significant with the Hull FC forward cited for his swinging elbow to the head of Mikey Lewis, an incident that went unnoticed by the referee but was labelled as both ‘disgusting’ and ‘assault’ by commentator Jon Wells.

If found guilty by an Operational Rules Tribunal that will take place on Tuesday night, then Ashworth would land a hefty ban, ruling him out for the remainder of the season and the play-offs.

Other significant charges include two-match bans for Luke Yates and Jordan Rapana, whilst Franck Maria will head to a disciplinary tribunal for his red card against Salford Red Devils.

It was expected to be a busy day for the Match Review Panel, especially in light of Sunday’s Hull derby which saw three players sent to the sin bin and a number of unpunished incidents.

Pundit Sam Tomkins claimed that Hull FC became ‘grubby’ in the latter stages of the game and that’s somewhat highlighted in the charges for Ashworth and Rapana, who both committed their offences in the final ten minutes.

In total, a whopping 23 charges have been dished out with eight players being banned and two more facing a disciplinary tribunal.

Round 25 Super League disciplinary verdict confirms nine bans

Wigan’s Luke Thompson cops two charges but no ban whilst Hull FC’s Jordan Rapana cops two charges and two bans so it’s actually only 21 players charged, although that is still believed to be a record under this new disciplinary system whilst eight players being banned and two heading to tribunal is also believed to be a record.

Hull FC account for six of the charges with Amir Bourouh, Yusuf Aydin, Jordan Rapana and Jack Ashworth all either banned or set for tribunal. Rapana’s two separate bans mean he has played his last game for Hull FC unless they make the play-offs, whilst Ashworth’s season will likely be over if found guilty of his striking charge.

The season is over for three other players with Salford’s Loghan Lewis and Warrington’s Luke Yates handed three and two-match bans respectively as both men are handed Grade D Head Contact charges. Catalans’ Franck Maria will also have a hefty ban if found guilty at Tuesday’s tribunal.

Tevita Pangai Jr receives a ban whilst Castleford’s Jeremiah Simbiken is the other player to be banned with the forward’s past record catching up to him as his Grade A charge carried him over the threshold for a ban once again.

Elliot Minchella was one of two Hull KR players charged but the captain only got a Grade A charge for his sin bin offence.

23 offences in 6 games. Sounds like the system is broken. Why can’t we just review just the offences put on report. After all we have 2 linesmen and a ref all who can confirm at the time.
