Hull FC man to miss Super League opener after sickening blow inside 15 seconds of Challenge Cup win

Hull FC progressed past Salford RLFC in the Challenge Cup with ease but they didn’t come through unscathed with one man to miss the Super League opener.

The Black and Whites won 60-0 against their Championship opponents, however, they lost second-rower Jed Cartwright to a HIA inside 15 seconds of the game.

In the first contact of the game, Cartwright went down with the Australian seemingly out of it initially before eventually sitting up. Cartwright was able to leave the pitch under his own steam, however, it was confirmed by his father and coach John Cartwright that the second-rower went to hospital to be seen.

Having failed his HIA, it means that the 29-year-old will miss the Super League season opener against Bradford Bulls, as his awful injury luck continues.

Despite signing for the Black and Whites midway through the 2024 season, Cartwright has only made 17 appearances and instead missed 20 matches, with next week set to be the 21st.

Whilst Cartwright’s injury was a huge negative from the night, the rest of the game went as planned with Hull FC running out 60-0 winners as Davy Litten scored his first career hat-trick.

Playing at full-back due to Will Pryce being rested given a tight hamstring, Litten crossed the line three times to highlight why he is one of Super League’s exciting talents among the backs.

Cade Cust bagged a brace with six others bagging tries including signings Jake Arthur, Joe Batchelor and Arthur Romano, as Zak Hardaker kicked eight from eleven.

Ligi Sao got valuable minutes in the bag after missing almost all of last season whilst Jed Cartwright’s injury allowed Connor Bailey to also earn some much-needed minutes.

Arthur Romano continued to impress at centre, creating a real headache for John Cartwright in regards his round one side given how strong both Davy Litten and Zak Hardaker are as well.

Hull FC will learn their round four opponents on Monday with the draw scheduled for 6.40 pm, with all details here.
