John Asiata injury update as Hull FC boss confirms another sent to hospital

Hull FC head coach John Cartwright has offered an update on John Asiata’s injury and confirmed another player had gone to hospital after their demolition of Catalans Dragons.

The Black and Whites won in the South of France in a major upset but they were even more convincing this time around as they shut the Dragons out, romping to a 34-0 win.

Catalans are by no means a team in form but it’s still a major statement win for Hull FC given the hot conditions and the fact they were missing some key players, including loose forward John Asiata.

Cartwright had confirmed earlier in the week that Asiata was set for a scan following the hamstring injury he picked up against his former club Leigh. There was no suggestion of timescale outside of the fact Asiata, who previously suffered hamstring injuries, didn’t feel it was as bad as before, however, a lengthy lay-off has now been confirmed.

“It’s not pretty,” Cartwright told BBC Radio Humberside when asked about the loose forward’s injury.

“I think it’s a Grade 3 (hamstring tear) which can be sort of eight to ten weeks but it’s too far away to put a figure on it. It’s not short-term, put it that way.”

Hull FC man sent for X-rays with possible broken cheekbone

It’s a huge blow for Hull FC who have appeared to perform a lot better with Asiata than without, though Saturday’s performance was impressive enough without him.

Despite that, Cartwright felt his side did miss him, labelling the blow as “huge” and explaining: “Huge, I thought we really missed him at stages today. He pulls everything together, he’s the link between the forwards and the backs and he’s really handy for Aidan (Sezer).

“He’s going to be a big loss. At some stage, I’m really hopeful that we’ll get the whole team together and I’m really excited about when we can make that happen.”

Whilst Cartwright maybe thought elements of the performance could have been better, two points and a clean sheet on the road are hard to moan about, but there was an injury sustained.

That came to Amir Bourouh who didn’t return after copping a blow and the Hull FC boss confirmed the hooker had headed to hospital for an X-ray, the results of which he didn’t yet have.

Cartwright explained: “He’s got a blow to the cheekbone. I don’t want to say what is exactly wrong with it but he’ll get some X-rays.

“I think we’ll get him some X-rays tonight because we fly tomorrow so we’ll know the extent of the injury before he’s ready to fly.”

Jed Cartwright injury update

John Asiata’s hamstring looks to present issues for the next two months and one other man who has been sidelined with a hamstring issue for an extended period is second-rower Jed Cartwright.

Father and coach John Cartwright was asked about other injuries and issued an update on Jed and two other forwards with the Black and Whites’ pack looking set for a boost in the coming weeks.

The coach explained: “Jed (Cartwright) didn’t travel. He’s a week to week proposition but we’re not going to risk him. If it happens again then it’s a long time out, probably the rest of the season, so we’re not going to rush him.

“Jordan Lane is probably getting closer, (Liam) Watts isn’t far away so we’ve just got to try and keep it together over the next month. If we can keep winning the odd game here and there and keep ourselves around where we are then I really fancy ourselves when we get everyone available.
