Hull FC injury update as boss confirms Sam Lisone blow and provides Herman Ese’ese return timeframe

Hull FC

Whilst it’s uncertain whether head coach John Cartwright will be in charge of Hull FC next week, one man who certainly won’t be taking to the field in round nine is Sam Lisone.

Lisone, who joined FC from Leeds Rhinos in the off-season, has torn his bicep in the club’s defeat to St Helens last night.

The Black and Whites went down 24-14 to the Red Vee in a game where the biggest talking point was the future of the home side’s boss, however the prop’s injury is another major factor to come from the game.

No time frame has been given on the enforcer, but Cartwright revealed post-match that Lisone will go for scans to determine the extent of the injury.

He said to the press post-match: “There’s a bad one and a not so bad one, so fingers crossed it’s a not so bad one.

Also going down to injury was young prop Matty Laidlaw, with the boss revealing: “I think it’s just a dead leg.”

Hull FC boss sets out Herman Ese’ese return date

Confirming some injury timeframes within the squad. Cartwright revealed: “Jake Arthur’s not far away. Batch [Joe Batchelor] is not far away.”

Herman Ese’ese hasn’t played since suffering an Achilles injury in August, and whilst there was hope he would be back on the field in April, the prop will have to wait a little bit longer.

Cartwright said: “Where we are skinny though, is the front row. Herman’s still probably a month away, five weeks away. We’ve got a bunch of goers who will have a crack but just genuine, big front rowers we’re probably down to just the two now.”

Commenting on John Asiata and Jed Cartwright, the boss explained: “[Asiata] will need surgery. I think the last one he had was 16 weeks, so you’re probably looking at around then… [Jed Cartwright]’s probably after the Challenge Cup Final [May 30].”

Bummer about Lisone, hope he recovers quickly. How long do they expect Ese’ese to be back?
