Latest Hull FC injury blow creates more pack problems for Wigan Warriors clash

Hull FC

The latest injury news out of Hull FC means their pack problems could get worse for their upcoming Super League clash with Wigan Warriors.

Hull FC have faced Wigan twice already this season, once in Super League and once in the Challenge Cup, with each game going very differently.

After the Black and Whites’ surprise Round One win over Catalans and Wigan’s dramatic golden point loss to Leigh on opening night, Matt Peet’s side responded with a bang as they put John Cartwright’s team to the sword.

Wigan would win 46-4 with Jai Field running riot as he scored a hattrick and Field proved pivotal in the second meeting, when Hull FC won 26-22 in the Challenge Cup with the Black and Whites mounting their comeback after Field had left the pitch injured.

The Australian full-back will be available for Sunday’s meeting at the MKM Stadium and he’s in electric form, scoring two more on Good Friday to extend his lead atop the Super League try-scoring charts.

Whilst he’s bound to be concerning John Cartwright, so will the current injury list for his forward pack which we’ve assessed.

Hull FC light on forwards for Wigan Warriors meeting

The Black and Whites were stretched in their pack against Hull KR on Good Friday with centres Zak Hardaker and Ed Chamberlain forced to play second-row and now, one of those men has picked up a knock.

Chamberlain “copped a knock to his shoulder” according to John Cartwright with the Australian confirming that it “might be a nerve thing”, although there was no further update.

John Asiata’s withdrawal was confirmed to just be for cramp, as with Amir Bourouh, but the options in the pack are certainly thinning and there are concerns that another may be made unavailable for Sunday.

Loanee Sam Eseh played off the bench against Hull KR but as yet, it’s unclear if he will be able to play against his parent club, who themselves are missing the likes of Luke Thompson, Ethan Havard, Tyler Dupree and possibly Patrick Mago from their pack.

If Eseh is barred from playing then he would join a long list of players on the sideline including Ligi Sao (knee), Jordan Lane (arm) Jed Cartwright (hamstring), Oliver Holmes (knee), Brad Fash (calf) and Will Gardiner (head), with Chamberlain potentially also added to that list depending on his shoulder.

Cartwright did confirm that Liam Watts (calf) could be back in contention to face Wigan but as it stands, the Black and Whites are short on bodies with more backs potentially set to be pushed into the pack.

We’ll know more when John Cartwright speaks with the media whilst the 21-man squads will be locked in on Friday.

The game is the last of Super League Round Nine but should results go their way, Hull FC could be playing for a spot in second, although they could also end the day in sixth.
