Hull FC head coach John Cartwright has provided an injury update and it’s more bad news with Will Pryce set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The Black and Whites’ injury issues have gone somewhat under the radar compared to other sides but it’s fair to say that they’re doing it tough in 2025. Signing Oliver Holmes was forced into retirement last week whilst fellow recruits John Asiata and Cade Cust have had injury issues, with Asiata one of the latest to suffer a lengthy setback.
Asiata suffered a hamstring tear and it’s now been confirmed that mid-season NRL signing Will Pryce has suffered the same fate with Hull FC set to be without the young playmaker for up to ten weeks.
At his weekly press conference, John Cartwright ran through the injury issues with the club providing an update via their website on Pryce as well as several other players suffering from injury.

On Pryce specifically, he said: “Unfortunately he twinged his hammy in the last play of the game (against Catalans).
“It’s not good. It won’t be short-term. We’re probably looking at eight to ten weeks, but we’ll scan him after six weeks just to see how he’s progressing.”
Like John Asiata, who also has a hamstring injury, the club are aiming to cut time off the recovery and Cartwright confirmed that Pryce will be working hard to get back on the field.
He said: “Anything he can possibly do to get his hamstring right again, he’ll do it. He’s a real pro and he’ll be back on the shorter side. It’s not ideal but we’ll work hard to make sure we can get him back as quickly as we can.”
As for Asiata, who missed the game against Catalans due to injury, Cartwrright confirmed the club will scan him at the six-week mark, like Pryce, for a better indication. The initial prognosis had been ten to twelve weeks.
There were also updates on five other players with positive boosts for three, all of whom could feature this week or next.
Amir Bourouh who had suffered a suspected broken cheekbone is “ok” having had scans and “a couple of meetings with a specialist”. Cartwright confirmed the hooker had the all-clear and “can’t do any more damage”, meaning he can face Castleford on Friday.
Cade Cust is another who will with Cartwright ruling his hip injury as a “nasty one” and that paired with flu, left the playmaker “run down”. Liam Watts is another close to returning, now back in full training and “should be available for selection the following week”.
There have been setbacks for Jordan Lane and Jed Cartwright with the head coach saying of Lane: “His arm’s not healed quite as we’d have liked, so he’s still got a bit to do yet.”
As for his son, he said: “Jed had a little bit of a hiccup getting ready for the Catalans game. If he’d have played and done some more damage, that could’ve ruled him out long-term. We’ve put him under the hamstring protocols. He’s not going to be too much further but we’re just going to make sure he’s 110% before we bring him back.”

Even though I’m a Rovers fan this is a shame for Prycecand FC. He’s worth the price of admission on his own! He’s exciting, unpredictable, has no fear in him, and they’re going to miss him. I love seeing BOTH Hull clubs being competitive.
