Hull FC confirm loan exit as competition for places heats up

Hull FC boss John Cartwright on the sidelines

Hull FC youngster Ryan Westerman is heading out on loan as the Super League side balances a number of outside backs in their squad.

Westerman will head to Hunslet on a season-long loan as the 19-year-old aims to get more game time with the Championship side.

Whilst the loan is for the remainder of the season, he can be recalled by the Black and Whites after two weeks if needed.

The centre has spent over three months on the sidelines recovering from a long-term ankle injury but made his return for the Hull FC reserves last week in a 38-30 victory over Leigh Leopards on Saturday.

Hunslet head coach Dean Muir is looking forward to welcoming the youngster to the club as he’s had fewer options across the backs in recent weeks.

Speaking on Hunslet’s website, he said: “Ryan is someone we have been following closely.

“We have been light in the outside backs, and he is the right fit for us.

“He has good yardage carry and is also a left-foot kick option.

“He works hard and we can’t wait to get working with him.”

Westerman is in line to make his debut for Hunslet this weekend as they host Oldham in the Championship.

Hull FC fierce competition in the backs

As Westerman heads out on loan for some game time, Hull FC have plenty of options in the backs.

Of their 41-man squad for the season so far, there are at least eight regular first-team players ahead of him, along with multiple youngsters who can play across the backline.

Even with fewer numbers in the forward pack and Zak Hardaker and Ed Chamberlain moving into the second row for the time being, Hull FC still have plenty of options, especially in the centres.

Davy Litten and Tom Briscoe started in the centres against Leigh Leopards, but Jordan Rapana had been playing there since Will Pryce’s move to the club and playing in the fullback role.

Logan Moy is also an option for Hull FC boss John Cartwright in the backs.
