Hull FC head coach John Cartwright has offered an injury update ahead of Friday’s Super League clash with Warrington Wolves, having welcomed back a player from injury in the win over Salford Red Devils.
The Black and Whites won 38-6 as they kicked on in the second forty after a frustrating and wind-impacted first half against Paul Rowley’s side.
Salford were level at 6-6 approaching the half hour mark before tries from Hull’s left edge pair of Davy Litten and Lewis Martin stretched the lead to 18-6.
A further four scores came in the second half with half-back Aidan Sezer picking up the Man of the Match nod and John Cartwright praised him for how he played, with the captain remaining the constant throughout the game.
“That’s what Aidan does really well. In tough situations, you’d back him to make the right call,” Cartwright told BBC Humberside when asked about the tough nature of the game.
Cade Cust praise as Hull FC coach tests him in new role
Sezer started the match alongside former Salford man Cade Cust, who scored the opener, but ended it playing next to youngster Jack Charles who made his first Super League appearance of the year.
Charles was thrust into the team last year when injuries savaged the side but he’s been suffering himself of late and made his seasonal debut off the bench.
On that, the Hull FC coach said: “It was good to see Cade Cust at number nine which gave Jack (Charles) a chance to get some footy and it gave Cade a chance to get a run out at number nine. I thought it added some variety to our team.”
Charles, who is still only 19 debuted in March last year but has missed most of the season. Speaking about the teen, Cartwright said: “He’s been burdened with injuries for the first 14 or 15 weeks. He’s had probably a month back now and he’s done really well in the reserve grade.
“It was a good chance to give him some game time at this level because he’s worked really hard, and it also let us see how Cade went at number nine.”
Looking ahead to Friday’s away game against Warrington Wolves, Cartwright confirmed no fresh injuries but also revealed he didn’t expect anybody to return meaning that he could be in line to name another unchanged XIII.
“Just a few bumps and bruises as you expect. There’s nothing major and hopefully they are all available next week,” he said, before being asked about returnees.
“It’s a short-ish turnaround, I’m pretty sure that we’ve got what we’ve got.”
