Hull FC skipper Aidan Sezer is carrying a slight issue that is preventing him from taking on goalkicking responsibilities, John Cartwright has revealed. Sezer has been the man from the tee for much of the season so far for Hull but he has stepped aside for new signing Will Pryce to take the reins over the last two games.
Pryce kicked four goals in the win over Warrington Wolves earlier this month but couldn’t find such success against Hull KR on Good Friday with two of his three conversion attempts going wayward. Sezer’s usual reliability was missed then, particularly as Hull looked to apply some scoreboard pressure on their table topping visitors.
Cartwright brought up the issue unprompted in his post-match press conference before going on to reveal that Sezer has been struggling with a hamstring issue that has prevented him from taking on the role.
Hull FC skipper’s hamstring issue
“All the ingredients are there and I thought we scored some smashing tries,” Cartwright said when assessing his side after the loss to the Robins. “Goal kicking has been a bit of an issue since Aidan hasn’t been able to kick.
“Will landed one at the end and hopefully that’s the confidence that he needs. It’s always nice to go up in sixes, they practice really hard and work hard on it. Some days it just doesn’t happen for you.”
Pushed on Sezer’s issue, he added: “He just got a little twinge in his hammy a couple of weeks ago when he kicked a goal so it’s probably more just being careful and having Will there who is a good kicker of the football and playing safe.”
The Black and Whites picked up a couple of other issues on Friday, with Ed Chamberlain and Jordan Rapana leaving the field through injury. However, given their next game is on Sunday against Wigan Warriors, they’ll hope to have the time needed to get them right, while Harvey Barron and Liam Watts could also be fit enough to be involved after overcoming problems.
