Hull FC announce return of club legend Scott Taylor as 2027 role explained

Hull FC have confirmed the return of club legend Scott Taylor with the former Challenge Cup winner to take on a coaching role in 2027.

The much-reported move has now been officially confirmed with Taylor set to leave Goole Vikings, as had previously been confirmed, to take up a role at his former club Hull FC.

Taylor started his coaching career with the Vikings in their inaugural campaign last year and he’s impressed at the club, so much so that he has earned himself a return to the MKM Stadium.

He will form part of a new-look coaching staff that will be led by incoming head coach Steve McNamara with Taylor’s official role one that see him described as joining the club’s ‘performance department’.

It’s fair to say that performances at Hull FC perhaps have been off ever since Taylor retired at the end of the 2023 season with the forward one of several players who won back-to-back Challenge Cups at the club.

Scott Taylor’s first words after Hull FC return confirmed

A statement confirming the appointment read: “Hull FC are delighted to announce Scott Taylor’s return to the Black & Whites, joining the club’s performance department for 2027.

“Taylor will depart his current role of Head Coach at Betfred Championship side Goole Vikings at the end of the season, linking up with incoming Hull FC Head Coach Steve McNamara ahead of the start of the Airlie Birds’ pre-season campaign in November, taking on a key role within the club’s coaching staff setup.”

Taylor made a total of 178 appearances for the Black and Whites over eight seasons and he expressed delight at returning to the club he calls home.

He said: “I’m very happy to be returning to my boyhood club; after retiring from playing, I chose to begin my coaching journey in the professional game, and after two superb years at Goole, I’m delighted to be taking the next step to return to a club I know incredibly well, and work under a coach who I have huge respect for and can continue to learn from.

“I’m incredibly excited to work with Steve in 2027 and beyond – we have known each other a long time and he is someone I have always admired as a coach. He was a huge factor in my decision to take the next step in my coaching career and return home to Hull.

“I had a few options in front of me for next season, but having spoken to Steve about his plans and his beliefs, they fell straight into line with what I wanted. Off the field, the club is currently in a really strong position, and I’m excited to get back and help play a role in strengthening our position on the field too.”
